What is the duration of DVC resale contract? Will the years used by the original owner be deducted from the 50 years to the new owner?

resale duration is the same as a contract purchased directly.

the duration does vary by resort:

BCV, BWV, VWL, HHI, VB = 2042 expiration date
SSR = 2054
AKV = 2057
BLT = 2060

OKW can end in 2042 or 2057...that is the only complicated one.

Each resort has a contract termination date. If the resort has a date of 2015, that's when it over. It doesn't matter how many people owned the contract during it's term.

I am guessing that Disney will offer extensions for all of their proprieties.

Thank you very much :)
I did not know that!!! when I purchased the point directly from Disney, I was told that the contract's duration is 50 years!!

Thanks for the information. We are looking into purchasing somebody else's contract, but haven't figured out where we want to own yet. We already own at BLT, so an additional resort would obviously be preferable. We'd also like a long contract to be able to pass to our children/grandchildren.

You must have bought at BLT. I purchased direct from Disney at OKW and even with the extended years the total years left on the resort was 48 years. I think if you buy in the first year a resort is selling then you get 50 years, any purchase in later years will have the reduced amount on the contract.

OKW when it began in late 1991 had essentially a 50 year term to January 2042. That was then also the designated end date for VB, HH, BWV, VWL and BCV although those all opened in later years; thus none of those ever in fact had a 50 year term. SSR then became the first one to have an end date after 2042 and when it opened it had a 50 year term to January 2053, AKL likewise a 50 year term when it opened to 2057, and BLT to 2060. OKW had an offered extension to 2057 which some OKW owners took and some did not giving it two end dates.

If you own at BLT and are considering purchasing elsewhere but don't want the 2042 contracts, you are limited in your choices at WDW to AKL, SSR, or extended OKW (which itself is usually available only through Disney) and if considering those, they all have higher dues than BLT and are easy to get at the 7 month window (except AKL concierge or value) and thus it is not necessry to own at those to usually be able to get a reservation.
