OK help me with resale contracts. I own direct at Rivera. Would love another 100 points but the direct price is crazy. Looking at a resale at either Animal Kingdom or even Old Key West. The entire restriction thing confuses me. If I buy resale lets say at AL what are the restrictions I face? Am I able to use points from both contracts to book a room?

That choice means can use all points together at only O14 resorts. The resale points are not valid at Riviera.

The resale AKL points could not be used at Riviera, Disneyland Hotel, or the Cabins at Fort Wilderness. They probably would not be usable at any future resort.

Otherwise, you can use points from both contracts provided (a) they are in the same Use Year and titled exactly the same way or (b) you are able to transfer points between them. Personally, I would not rely on (b).

How much do you love Riviera, and what are your DVC goals?

Personally, if looking at 100 points I'd purchase a resale Riviera contract. The RIV resale points can only be used at Riviera, but you'd use all your points at the 11mo mark to book a trip. This would be your default/standard trip. Then, if you wanted, at 7mo you have the option of using the 150 direct points elsewhere.

If you purchased an AKV resale but then wanted to pool your points together for a single longer stay you could do so, but would be subject to the 7mo availability. In this scenario your default/standard trip would be a split stay from the get go, which isn't optimal unless that's what you really wanted.
