Resale contract with different use year?

You all were so helpful when I purchased my first contract so I figured I’d ask for your thoughts again!

I have a February UY, I wish I had an October UY instead because I would only travel to Orlando October-May due to the temps and humidity.

I’m looking at a poly resale with an October use year, are 2 use years really a pain?

I just worry with a feb UY I’m past my banking deadline if something happens and we have to cancel a fall trip.

If I used the points independently, October use year for fall trips and February use year for April trips would that be less painful?

I hope this makes sense 🤪

If you use them for different trips, then it’s not a huge deal.

We do that along with split stays so it’s manageable!

You can transfer on the rare occasion you might want to combine. We tend to just borrow instead but there are ways to make it work!

If you are combining the points for trips, it will be a pain.

But if you use them each for separate trips then it is no problem. We have 2 resorts with 2 different UY and alternate years that we use the contracts and use banked points and sometimes have to borrow points.

Also if you travel in October, a August or September UY will probably work just as well. That way you have 3 UY's to look for the best contracts.

Some find it to be a pain but we love having multiple UYs. While there are inconveniences in managing born and keeping track of banking deadlines etc there are certainly advantages such as having 2 more waitlist requests and being able to transfer points between the two UYs.

If different resorts then getting a different use year that works better with a great price is more than acceptable. Having contracts that can stand in their own (using banked points and minimizing needing to transfer) helps a lot with this.

I wouldn’t double down on a suboptimal UY just because that’s what you happened to have purchased first.

We have 3 UY. The bulk of ours are AUG for fall/winter trips. Small DEC for spring (it was a deal) and a small FEB for maybe summer trips. It works perfectly for us. Use them for different trips and you’ll be fine!

Two UYs is not a big deal. I set a iPhone calendar alert a couple of days before the banking deadline. For me, that's the only thing I need to monitor. But also, I use studios and don't transfer points for bigger rooms. The only downside, IMO, is if you need to combine or transfer points for a single trip. That is, a small contract with a new UY isn't great. But if you have enough for complete trips in your second UY, that's probably OK. A second UY will also give you two more waitlist spots and the ability to buy a second set of OTU points each year.

This!!
If October is ideal go with that and continue with that for future purchases. Someday you could sell your Feb and remove any hassles you may have (if any). ;)

I sold my first contract before I even got home from my first trip.

Now my next question is should I put an offer in on a resale contract or wait and see what the next incentives are on Thursday?

Be aware that typically when buying direct they’ll match your existing use year, so if you seriously want a different use year you will need to let your guide know that.
