Required clothing for a typical August?

We will be in Disney from the 4th to 14th of August, around the same time as our last trip, but I still don't completely trust myself to figure this out.
I know it will obviously be hot, hot, hot, much hotter than what we are used to, but what kinds of clothes do you think?
As in, how many pairs of shorts?
Will we need long pants at all?
Will we need sweatshirts?

I know this is a very newbie question , but I just can't seem to trust myself with this decision for some reason. :confused3

No pants. No sweatshirts.

All you'll need is shorts and Ts (and a rain poncho).

We always bring clothes that prepare us for all kinds of weather. Sometimes it can be cool at night (less possible in August - but possible). Being prepared will prevent the $50 expense on a hoodie (my count is at 6 hoddies now - only recently have I started taking my own advice! :lmao: )

August has an average low temperature of 73 degrees. The average high is 93 degrees. The humidty will be horribly high and it will rain most afternoons.

Some people get chilly in the air conditioning. Those people should bring something with sleeves.

No, and absolutely not. August in Florida is blisteringly hot and sweat-dripping humid. Many people take extra shorts and tops to change into midday because they get drenched in sweat so easily. The nights do not cool down at all; believe me, you'll wish they did!

You won't need anything to keep warm - as you know, the florida sun will keep you nice and toasty.:)

According to my family, I always pack too much but.... for our trip last summer, I had a pair of shorts and a light-colored t-shirt (I stay away from black and navy) for each day I was there. You can get by with less if you plan on doing laundry while you are there. I did take a couple of pairs of capris and nice shirts if I felt like coming back to the cabin, taking a shower, and "dressing up" for dinner. (I always think this will happen and then we just wing it and end up staying at the parks until they close!)

I took a lot for my kids as they like to wear their food more than they actually get in their mouths. :lmao:

I ALWAYS bring a super light windbreaker - I get cold in some restaurants.

We didn't bring jeans at all. I think my DH brought a pair of khakis and a nice shirt in case we decided to have a grown-up dinner and leave the kids with my mom. Of course, that didn't happen.

Have a great trip!

I have to disagree and say that yes, I think each person might want to have one sweatshirt or long-sleeve t-shirt, although not for outside.

I find in the summer time that they crank up the AC in the restaurants and indoor attractions to a ridiculous level, and I'm really, really cold if I don't have some sort of long sleeves on in the restaurants especially.

The times I forgot one, I ended up having to buy something because I was tired of being cold in the restaurants (table service restaurants especially) and the indoor attractions.

when we went this past september/early october, the temps were much like august: 97 and 100% humidity. i wore tanks, halters, tube-tops and shorts/skirts and flipflops/sandals.

to stay cool, each park sells spray bottles with little fans. trust me, they are worth it!!

I wish I had read about bringing a sweater for inside the restaurants for our trip last Sept. (similar weather in Aug)

Initially, the A/C felt so good after the humid outside heat but after about 20 minutes or so, it was uncomfortably cold. My poor DS7 lips were turning blue.

We are definitely adding sweater or sweatshirt for each of us for our next trip in Sept.

we also did a recent September trip with 90 degree temps -- the lighter the clothes, the better ... used our ponchos for overly AC'ed restaurants

Well, I would suggest a lot of sunscreen and total nudity - but I don't think that would go over too well. Can you imagine the headlines - Walt Disney World becomes Florida's Latest Nudist Resort!!! :cool1:

However, loose fitting shorts and shirts - cotton and light coloured are probably the best options. While sweaters and hoodies are great for when you have to spend a lot of time in a restaurant where the AC is set to Arctic - a better option (and easier to carry throughout the day) are light all-cotton long sleeved T-Shirts. Simply put them on once you start to feel a little too cold, and then it's easy enough to remove them when you are about to leave to go back outside.

In terms of long pants - my only suggestion is to definitely bring one pair along if you are travelling by air. Personally, I find planes too cold for shorts - but for some people, this might not be a problem.

Definitely if you can find some of the moisture-wicking tanks/tees in light colors. Most places you can also get the shorts/capris in the same material. I know that here, Target and LL Bean both have a pretty good selection that work pretty well for me.

I agree with the OP - I pretty much pack more than we'll ever need, but I like to have the option that if DH, DD or I get soaked by a splash&dash storm, or on Splash or Kali there's a dry set of clothes waiting back at the room (every day if need be).

I also second wearing either water-friendly sandals, a pair of flip flops for the water rides, or at least bringing a pair of extra socks. Nothing says blisters more than the combination of heat, friction, and soaked socks.

I think you'll be fine with shorts and t-shirts - way too hot for long pants. Maybe a light jacket or sweater for when you're in the air conditioning a lot.

The thing to remember is that since it will be so hot and humid, your clothes will probably get sweatier/dirtier than during cooler weather, so you might need more clothes (or plan to do laundry) than usual. In cooler weather, I might wear the same pair of shorts two days, but when it's so hot and sweaty, they don't last more than a day.

...and if going on Kali River or Splash, don't wear white! Unluckily, i didnt know Splash got one so wet...luckily, i had a sports bra on underneath so all was saved :rotfl:

Shakebear, since you are from Newfoundland there is no way that you will need long pants or long sleeves at WDW in August. Just bring the lightest weight clothes that you own. I understand that some people may want a sweater for the restaurants but there is no way that I would be bothered with carrying one around.

We were at WDW in April-May. Some of the mornings were pleasantly cool (around 70 degrees). I was always surprised by the number of people who arrived at the parks wearing jackets or sweatshirts. Even by the time the parks opened the temps were well into the 70's. But then they had to carry them all day.

:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

When in Disney during the hot months, we plan for two complete outfits for each day. Plus, I am one who doesn't like to do laundry on vacation, so I usually pack a few extra outfits just in case they are needed.

To put it in perspective for you guys, it's 26 C (79 F?) here right now, and it's like a heatwave.
This is more than anyone I know who is from here is used to.
We're used to weather more like 15-20 C (59-68 F) in the summer.
That's just to put it in perspective the kind of weather i'm used to, which is obviously not quite as warm as FL. ;)

I live in Austin, TX and we've had 20 100+ degree days from May 20-June 27. We haven't even hit the hottest part of our summer. Wow! I would take a 79F degree heat wave right about now.:cool2: It's 88F right now and feels like a cold front came in.

PACK EXTRA UNDERWEAR!!!!! (We found ourselves showering twice a day.)
