Requests at OKW

Hi!

For our (proposed) trip to OKW in September I would like to be near Hospitality House, Olivias etc. I would prefer an upper floor room but we will have a stroller plus a senior guest who although she finds stairs difficult, does not require a HA room. So, if I request to be in an elevator building will that get me near HH plus solve the stairs issue?

So my requests would be:

Non smoking
Standard room (or do I say non HA?)
In elevator building
Upper floor

This seems like a lot to ask for! We had HA in a SSR 2 bed last, with our toddler it was a nightmare. We eventually got moved as it was just not safe having DD touch everything that was low in the kitchen and we were at the resort for 14 nights so it was a long time to put up with the risks of her turning oven on or pulling coffee pot down. DH has asthma so the NS request is important. I guess I could drop the other requests, but I dont want to be carrying the stroller down stairs every day.

Maybe I should just stick with NS request which is important to us, we have never got a HA room at many stays at WDW regular resorts before, so are there more HA rooms at DVC or was I just unlucky?

I realise requests are not guaranteed, of course. Just interested in what people think.

Our ressie is currently at SSR but we hope to switch to OKW at 7 months. Should it be hard to get 16 night at OkW? (1 bed for 11 nights, 2 bed for 5 nights in middle of trip when friend joins us)

Thanks for any advice from you OKW experts!

If you request an elevator building 62, 63, 64 it would met all your requests (if they can accomodate it). The elevator buldings are across from the Hospitality House, they are all non smoking and the only HA rooms in them are the Grand Villas.

Great!!! Thanks so much for the info! I think I will request Non smoking and elevator building, that way if we are put in a different building they will know that NS was also a concern.

Thanks again!

As the area you are requesting is hard to get, you might provide them enough info to help you otherwise. I always say "elevator OR ground floor due to mobility issues" and then they know why I am asking! They try so hard to accomodate the guests with medical issues. No way my parents could do those stairs... Good luck! :flower:

Hi Colleen, I am concerned that if I do as you suggest they will give me a HA room. When we were given a HA room at SSR last Sept we were told it was because we requested NS due to medical reasons. It was as if they were assuming having asthma means you need a HA room. I thought this was odd.

oh SSR needs to do retraining big time - if this is what they are telling members.

No - you can definitely get a non-smoking (I am also allergic to smoke) and have the room be non-hc.

however always request non-hc!

OKW only has 3 buildings with elevators - your odds of getting one is not good.

so if you don't are you capability of going up 3 flights of steps - most only have 2 - but some definitely have 3.

at OKW (except for the 62-64) only have handicapped on the first floor.

MinnieMo, HC rooms are not that common. I ALWAYS list medical reasons for my parents - -Dad has a new knee and Mom has asthma and uses a scooter -- and we have never gotten a HC room. At the desk I ask if it is a HC room, and if it was, I would politely ask to be reassigned. I usually say "ground floor NS for medical" and they have always accommodated us. Often the room is ready at 8am! OKW really is special...

Want my additional 2 cents? I don't think the HH area is that great. I think the more outlying areas -- Southpoint in particular -- are much more lush and pretty. We also love Turtle Pond area, with it's fun pool and snack bar. We always have our vehicle so we can drive to HH if the walk is too far or the weather is funky. In all our stays at OKW, we haev NEVER gotten a room we didn't love! When you check in, you can ask the CM about the building you are assigned to. They have always been very friendly and flexible.

Last summer I requested a HC room in 62-64 upper floor, and was given a NON-HC room in building 23 first floor. When you check in, ask them where they have you for your stay BEFORE you leave check-in. If it's not what you want, refuse the room, and just wait until a preferred room becomes available. This can take a long time, but if it's that important to you, do it. A room almost always becomes available eventually that is exactly what you want.

We request nonsmoking and Turtle Pond Pool area, and have never been disappointed!
