Does anyone have any experience requesting a specific location at SSR (or any other DVC resport)? We usually take what we get, but liked a particular location last visit and would like it again. Thanks.
in my limited experience, i've never gotten my requests. (i did get a savanna view value studio at AKV when i didn't request anything...so i don't know what to tell you...)
We stayed at SSR last March and got our request for the Springs section to be near the main pool. However, when we got there, we discovered that the main pool was closed for refurbishment. Staying in that area would have put us far away from the nearest pool. At the check-in desk, I requested a room near a pool and transportation and they found a great room in the Paddock section that was right next to a quiet pool and bus stop. The check-in CM was very accomodating and we had a better vacation because of it.
I called 5 days before our stay last Fall and requested Congress Park. We had two reservations using our points (1 for us, 1 for family) under two different names and both rooms were located in CP.
Requested Congress Park, and ended up in one of the more distant Grandstand Buildings (brand new at the time -- I think we were the first DVC members in the room). At first I was disappointed, and then discovered the walk to the main area was only 8 minutes (we're older, and it was in a hot July stay). DH never cares where we end up -- to him it's just a room to nap and shower in.
At other DVCs sometimes get request, sometimes not.
There are a lot of factors in getting you request honored. Here are several of them:
Be sure you place a special request in your reservations. You dont see it on your confirmations but reservations notes it in your file.
Day of check in If you check in on days that are typical big check out days you will a better chance. Fridays were a good day before the point changes. Should still be a good check in day.
Time of check in If you get there early in the morning, even if your room isnt available and the check in person sees that the room is checking out that day you will be ahead of any one else wanting that room. They do assign the rooms a several days ahead of the day people check in.
How nice you are to the people checking you in If you let them know that you dont mind waiting for a room later in the day if it meets your request.
Ive requested a type of room or location and for the most part I have gotten my requests.
That doesn't exist. It's an error on your reservation.
To the OP, don't request a specific room. Request a location, high floor/low floor. If you request a specific room, it may be taken and they won't know what you want.
Thanks, I called DVC and asked them the question and they told me they were having problems with the online check in system and that what I was seeing was a room category for Caribbean Beach! I sure was glad to confirm that I was actually at SSR and not CB!
