When requesting room locations at AKL, does anyone have any suggestions? We are booking savannah view, but is any area better than others - for proximity or room design, not necessarily view. Do some locations mean larger rooms? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

Room sizes at AKL will depend on the room you reserve not on the location - the 'deluxe' rooms are larger than the standard by about 15% and have two queen beds and a daybed instead of two queen beds (or bunkbeds).

Our room last Nov. was 2375 (Kudu Trail). It was quite a trek from the room back to the lobby - even farther to the restaurants and bustop. It was tough to complain though - we had received a complimentary upgrade from an AP rate standard to savannah view...

General data:
* Zebra Trail rooms will be closer to the restaurants and the pool.
* Rooms #x407 - #x437 will be in the two sections of the Zebra Trail closest to the lobby.
* Rooms #x210 - #x241 will be in the two sections of the Kudu Trail closest to the lobby.
* All the Ostrich Trail rooms are close to the lobby.

Just for your information, I don't think any floor or view is better or worse. I think the above information about proximity is probably your best guide. In January, I stayed one night on the 5th floor of Sunset Savannah, then one night on the second floor of Arusha Savannah. I really can't say one was any better than the other. Wherever you stay, enjoy!

We stayed on Zebra Trail and I think that has better animals. Each trail has geraffs, but only Zebra Trail has zebras. Try for a room on the second floor or third floor. There are no rooms on the first floor. The second floor therefore is the lowest floor with guest rooms and it is the closest to the animals. The third floor is on the same level as the lobby so you wont need an elevator each time you come and go from the resort.

I saw a thread that gave the room numbers where the geraff feeders are located near the balconies on the Zebra Trail last December but I can't find it. Of course, if you go with a higher floor, you won't be as close to the animals, but you will have a bird's eye view of the Savannahs and would be able to see deeper into them.

We were able to see Zebra, Kudu, Ankole Cattle, Giraffe, and Wildebeest from our Kudu Trail balcony during our stay last Nov/Dec.

Perhaps they move the critters around - might be a good question to ask when you check in. The Giraffe were at some distance, the rest of them were within 'spittin' distance at times.

When you check in you will sign a 'do not feed/mess with' the animals agreement - and the railing on the balcony contains a humorous sign that basically says "don't do anything on the balcony that you don't want recorded on video" :-)

Personally I enjoyed being on the floor closest to the animals - it was seriously kewl to listen to them as well as to see them. We even got lucky one morning when a couple of the Ankole Cattle bumped horns while they were eating and it turned into a shoving match!
