Requesting a new planner

I too received that email and am glad it was finally acknowledged in writing - albeit very vague and late. It officially opened the lines of communication to where all of the brides didn't have to feel like they were coming out of left field with their questions. It is sad that some did not get the email and that it was not followed up by the planners.

I also got that email from Disney weddings on August 8th. Meri is also scheduled to call us on monday(9/25) to further discuss updated info on the construction.

I know i'm new to this board and my wedding is over a year away - but, it does seem like they're taking some corrective actions now. We had our site visit on 9/16, and the consultant asked us if we knew what the scope of the project would be, showed us the model for what the site should look like next November next to the WP, and also the boards for the 3 phases before that planned phase, as they are already running behind, and it could very well be less complete than they are projecting right now by Nov 2012. After reading the horror stories on this board, I was pleasantly surprised with the fact that he was both proactive and informative - I didn't have to ask about it, it was one of the first things he talked to us about. It won't fix things for those of you who are getting married soon and didn't get this communication, but I think they're listening to the frustrations and making some changes. (the consultant did definitely ask my DF and I if we've been following the DISboards about the construction!)

I spoke with Janet yesterday. I voiced all of my concerns and all the stuff I was upset with. She says that they never got a fax I sent (although my mom has confirmation it was received) so I'm not sure what to think there.

She offered me the Marina as my better option since I was so worried about the construction. I'm getting married in JANUARY in the morning! My guest could be freezing their lil butts off should the weather decide to be a pain. She talked it up and made it sound amazing, but this morning I looked at the pictures e-mailed to me and there is just ABSOLUTELY no comparing it to the WP.

she did state that next week they're getting an update on what construction timelines look like right now.

She also said that, aparently, the same mailing system that sent out the mass e-mail about the WP windows, sent one out to everyone telling of construction 'next door'. I have never seen or heard of such e-mail and was sure to let her know that.

I really hope whomever my new planner is [we didn't get to that part of the call yesterday because we both ended up busier than we thought] can help give me some better options regarding my ceremony and the construction because the Marina just DOES NOT COMPARE

I couldnt agree with you more, we too were given the option of the Marina because it is the only place that will still be at the GF and have a view of the castle. We have decided we are probably going to go with this option only because I don't want to deal with all this frustration of the construction on my wedding day. Do i like this option, not at all, nothing will ever compare to the WP. Everything is so up in the air with this construction it doesn't seem like anyone can get clear answers or timelines so I totally here where you are coming from. It is very hard to get a hold of the planners which makes this situation worse. If I were you I would get a new planner as well.

Regarding this whole situation I think the least they should be doing is stopping construction for the ceremonies but even that I can't get a definitive answer. Somedays I hear they will be then the next time I talk to someone they won't be. I think what irritates me the most about this whole situation is the fact that who ever is in charge of this whole project never thought about how it would effect the Disney Brides. I really would have thought a company such as Disney would have a plan on how to deal with their brides. We all should have been notified by phone or email before it was posted all over here. The email that was sent out was done way after we all knew about this construction. In my opinion there should have been something that said, here is how this will effect you, here is what we will be doing to make up for this disappointment and here are your options if you so choose not to stay at the WP. If Disney handled this situation in that manner I don't think there would be as many angry brides. We would all still be very disappointed but at least I would know they do care about how this effected me. Right now I feel like we are bottom of the list.

Sorry to vent but I just got off the phone with my planner for the 3rd time about this issue and once again we got know where. This is nothing against Pamela because I do believe she truly does care and wants to do what she can to make us happy but she just does't have much room to say anything because of the way disney is so secretive. It is very hard to get answers over there. She has told us that everything we have expressed to her she is repeating back to the person in charge of DFTW or construction not sure which. But at least they know how upset and angry we are and that after the way this was handled we would never recommend a Disney wedding. Despite all of this I do believe that in the end this wedding will be everything I dreamed about.

I just think what Disney should have done was block out the WP during the time of the construction well in advance. These construction projects are in planning long before they are started. This way, when a bride calls to book a wedding they know there are no WP dates available from this time to this time due to construction. That way, no one is upset.

I think the construction WAS planned far in advance, but DFTW did not know about it, or know any details. DVC is really secretive like that. When they were building BLT everyone knew what they were doing but they waited so long to officially announce it. I really don't think the blame should fall on DFTW with this one. I think they are making do the best they can with a crappy situation, and the poor planners are getting the brunt of the anger from the brides. If people are really that mad about it, they should be taking it up with DVC, in my opinion.

Also, I work in construction and I can tell you that things never go the way you plan them to. So even if a year ago, DVC had some sort of timeline laid out, chances are it would be off by a few months at this point. It's just the way it is.

I did this... I went down to Saratoga Springs personally, only to have everything denied. Even though I had the renderings, they said they knew nothing about any construction. Complaining to DVC will get you nowhere unfortunately :(

That's kind of my point in a way...they deny things to infinity and beyond, so it didn't shock me to find out that a lot of the planners didn't know much about construction plans. That's why I think it's sad that so many of them are taking a beating from brides. Yes, the WP brides have a right to be upset about the construction going on - I would be too! - I just think blaming the planners is misdirected.

Please realize my main reason for asking for a new planner was due to lack of communication in general. It was not specifically just because of construction. My aggrivation with the construction I've taken up with their highest of high.
