Requesting a Character

Even though I don't have an "official" DLR trip upcoming, I was wondering about something a CM told me back in November at DL. My dad's favorite Disney character is Jafar, and when we were at DLR for Thanksgiving he wanted to see if he was available for a meet and greet. When we asked the CM, she said that he wasn't, but that we could request a character at any time.

So, has anyone ever tried this before?? Does it come with a price?? This would be great for our next vacation because DBF loves loves loves loves LOVES Steamboat Willie and he would love love LOVE to meet him :goodvibes And I know they have a costume for that Willie because of F!

TIA! :thumbsup2

I have only heard of private meet and greets in a few scenarios:

- Part of a relatively expensive VIP tour
- A lucky moment of "pixie dust"
- A ridiculous amount of Movie Rewards points.

I would say the 2nd would be your best bet, but maybe 1 is a possibility for you as well. There may be other ways, but those are the three I have heard of happening.

As for Steamboat Willie, I don't think I have ever seen Steamboat Willie do meet and greets. Yes, Steamboat Willie in Fantasmic!, but I don't know if he ever ventures off the Mark Twain. :goodvibes Just something I've never seen. Maybe others have.

I would call Guest Relations and ask what you could arrange. 714-781-4000

Wow, I can't believe you can just walk up and request a Meet and Greet with any character you want! That would be crazy!

Perhaps the CM meant that you can always ask which characters are out, or when they may be out. :confused3

What I have heard, is if you go to Mickey's house to see Mickey, there are four screening rooms where you meet Mickey in back for pictures. Mickey wears different costumes in each of the rooms. Before you leave the movie room, where you are led out with a small group to meet Mickey, ask if there is Steamboat Willie available to meet. You might have to wait for the rotation to meet Steamboat Willie.

Yes, that's what I heard too. He rarely seems to be there though. We must have gone a dozen times and with one exception (which was Sorcerer Mickey) have always met Band Concert Mickey.

i was in the house 3 years ago and i asked to meet steamboat mickey but only regular mickey was on.

Maybe the CM was saying you could go request characters like a way of letting DLR know who the public wants to see, not that you get to pick which characters they bring out. :confused3

Good thinking :thumbsup2 We've never bothered with most of the Toontown houses because of the lines, so I don't even know what the layout is for Mickey's House :goodvibes DBF would also love to see Sorcerer Mickey(his 2nd favorite), but Steamboat Willie would win by a longshot.

We lucked out a couple years ago and was able to meet Steamboat Willie in Toontown at Mickey's house. My kids were so excited when we got in to the photo area and it was saw Stemboat Willie there...it was awesome! Definitely the highlight of that trip!

I've seen Jafar several times, but that's bc we frequently seek out the villains since a college friend of DHs plays one. If you ask for the sched he would probably be relatively easy to find.
Just out of curiousity, I've never see him but we only go 2-3 x per year, has aybody ever seen Wall-E? I've seen the incredibles, the monsters inc crews, the toy story chars, and obviously the stationay lightning and turtle talk w crush, but have never seen anybody from wall-e or rattouille. Probably logistically difficult, but just thought it would be worth asking.

it would be really cool if they made a Wall-E that worked like Push the talking trash can. It could move around and interact with guests.

I know you were asking about Steamboat Willie but you mentioned looking for Jafar. When you go to WDW (I see you are going next year) he can be found in the Morocco pavillion at Epcot - I've seen him there many, many times.

Jafar normally comes out to visit around Halloween time. Try to plan a trip around then, when the Villains get to have their turn in the spotlight.

Wow!! I'll keep that in mind for when we finally get there :thumbsup2

I'm curious when you saw Jafar at Epcot. As far as I know he has never been a regular there. We always see Jasmine and Aladdin there, but never Jafar.

He DOES occasionally appear randomly in DHS in the Animation Building in their character groups that come out on days without an early Fantasmic show. The selection of characters there is pretty random. We saw him in that group in 09, but not last year.

Does anyone know anything more about the VIP tour, as for prices, etc. I have always wanted to meet Clara Cluck so would love to arrange this, hope someone has some information on it. Thanks a million.:goodvibes

We got Steamboat Willie at Mickey's house 4/1/11. Not joking. :) DD5 did not want to get off of the steamboat!

I will just throw this out there, if Steambaot Willie is just on Fantasmic......I read in a trip report that someone got an invite to be on the Mark Twain and in Fantasmic.that sure might get you up close and personal with Willie !!!! Just a thought. AHP

Now I'm even more excited about going to DL this summer!! I have two favorite characters (other than Mickey and Minnie) that I NEVER get to see at WDW--Captain Hook and Steamboat Willie. I remember seeing Captain Hook at DL as a child, but I can never seem to find him at WDW; this summer I should get to see him at our Character Meal at Plaza Inn. And now the possibility of seeing Steamboat Willie in something other than Fantasmic? Woohoo!!!!

Yeah I worked at Epcot and as far as I recall Jafar was never in Morocco at WDW (he's my favorite so I was always on the prowl for him!) and all I ever saw was Aladdin and Jasmine and occasionally Genie. Jafar is at DHS in the Animation Building sometimes but you can definitely catch him during Halloween time in there.
