request stateroom host?

On our most recent cruise, we had a great stateroom host who we really enjoyed interacting with. He knew we were frequent cruisers, and on our last day he told us we should request him for our next cruise. We didn’t really have a chance to ask him more about this as it was the busy turnover morning. We would be happy to have him again, but I thought that their assignments were blocks of rooms in a particular location, so I don’t really understand how this would be possible unless they moved him to the area of the ship where our stateroom was located. Anyone with any experience or insight regarding this?

While I have never heard of requesting a stateroom host, I would imagine that it would work much like requesting a server in the MDR. I think the stateroom hosts are moved around in different areas (other than concierge - those are specific to concierge), so as long as your request was in far enough in advance (I'd think at least a month) and they were not on vacation, they could be assigned to the block that would include your cabin.

Even if your stateroom host is not assigned to your particular room, requesting them looks very good on their record. So, Disney may not be able to accommodate your request, but the manager of your stateroom host will definitely know about your request and it will reflect well on them.

Hadn’t thought about this but it’s a good point. I think we will go ahead and request him next time we’re on the Fantasy.

I would suggest, if you do request a specific room host, that you clarify that you don't want to change rooms to get your request. Or that you don't mind changing rooms to get your request. Whichever works for you.

I think it would be hard to get the same person. I mean, don't they change sections and assigned ships? Maybe he is even on vacation.

As others have said, simply having the request made reflects well on the stateroom host, and the request will be noted in her/his record.

It is more likely that they change sections during a contract than ships - though they can be moved to another ship mid-contract if needed. And as I said, if the request is put in far enough in advance - barring the old or new cruise being in Concierge and the old or new cruise not being in Concierge - it is possible they could well assign the requested stateroom host to the requestee's block. I'd say at least a couple of months ahead to put in the request - they would certainly not be able to do it the day of embarkation.
