DH is on deployment alert and a request for orders was made 11 days ago. We haven't received them yet. Of course the sooner we recieve them the sooner we can sign up again for TriCare, reduce our mortgage rate, make better plans, etc. What has been your experience for a timetable between RFO and finding them in the mailbox?

DH was notified he was selected to deploy while at AT. He flew home the next day, orders were e-mailed to our house 7 days from his notification and he left 9 days after getting home from AT (3 days after getting the orders). So, to answer your question...FAST! He was in Iraq working within 5 weeks of notification.

Good luck to you all during this time. I hope it goes smoothly.

Thank you for the info. I can't remember how soon they came after the last time we knew.

You can wait months for orders or they can come in days from the RFO. All depends upon the agency and the Command. However, you should know that you can enroll in Tricare up to 90 days before the AD report date. Below is an excerpt from the Tricare web site. You'll have to call Tricare to determine if the deployment alert will qualify you for early enrollment.

TRICARE Eligibility for RC Members and Family Members
To be eligible for this early TRICARE benefit, RC members and family members must be registered and TRICARE eligible in the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS). The member’s Service personnel office is responsible for determining the member’s eligibility for the early TRICARE benefit. The Services will notify and advise eligible RC members of their TRICARE medical and dental benefits when their delayed-effective-date active duty orders are issued.

RC members may verify their eligibility for TRICARE through the secure Guard and Reserve Web Portal Web site at https://www.dmdc.osd.mil/appj/esgr/index.jsp (if the employer input page appears, click the “BACK” button located on the bottom of the “employer input page”). For assistance with an eligibility problem, members should contact their Service Point of Contact listed on the TRICARE Web site at www.tricare.osd.mil/reserve/reservepoc.cfm.

If the RC member is issued delayed-effective-date active duty orders (for more than 30 days in support of a contingency operation) and the orders are cancelled prior to the member reporting to active duty, TRICARE coverage (eligibility) for the member and eligible family members terminates on the effective date the orders are cancelled.

His report date has been moved up and then back and then up again, but the actual "numerical" date hasn't been set. He is on the rotation for a specific date and has recieved the emails to consider himself on alert to deploy until you are notified that something has changed. We are still in the DEERS system. I should have him call them to see if we can use the benefits now, even though the date isn't specific. We are within 90 days.
