Ok this has got to stop....as many of you know I almost exclusively play pirates for credits.

It has become increasingly popular for players to exhibit rude and disgusting behavior. The name calling has gotten out of hand.

Before you say just report these players....that can be easier said than done.
Most times when this happens in the games I am playing the offending player goes to a different instance than me. Also I have been warned for saying " I hate ugly players" which if VMK had read the transcript of the game I was just in they would have seen what transpired to make me say that.(Bad choice of words and we hashed that out in another thread ;) )

My suggestion to VMK is this: ( of course please add your thoughts to this also)

1. Monitor the Pirates games and immediately ban players using foul(not allowed) behavior and talk in the games.

2. Make it easier to report players that are no longer in the same instance as you.

3. add a language against the rules option to the report options so we do not have to go into such detail and almost impossible to explain at times.

4. add a report button in the game (this one may be impossible to do but would help the most) and players who abbuse this option or use it unwarranted would receive a ban also. Thus avoiding mis use of this feature.

Please VMK I beg you to do something about this serious situation.

thanks for listening.

I couldnt agree with you more! I LOVE LOVE LOVE Pirates! But I am so so done with all the rude nasty dicotionary dancing that goes on in there...

It's depressing. Really.

Mal, I agree one hundred percent. You also present some really good ideas, and those ideas would also benefit vmk as well. If I were a new player playing pirates, and if players called me a nasty name, I would stop playing. I have also seen other players dance around the dictionary to get their point across...calling others the most vulgar four letter words I have ever heard of. They can not say the actual word, but they clearly get their point across. It is very sad....in our house even 'stupid' is considered a curse word! LOL :thumbsup2

I wish they could add an ignore button to pirates. I've gotten to the point that I don't even read the talk bubbles anymore :(

That should be an option if players want to use it.

Although talk in the game can be fun...it is just a few bad apples that are spoiling what I think is the Best game in VMK! I for one would hate to see talk taken away or made an option to ignore it...talk also helps less seasoned players learn the ropes. So making talk an option to ignore doesn't address the problem it only hides it.

I am not saying that taunting/teasing by fellow players should get players banned...Duck and I like to tease each other ruthlessly ;)

But calling others rude names, cheat hers, lose hers and worst needs to end.

Why can't we say you are being rude. I agree pirates is a very unpleasant game to play but love friendly pirates. I also agree with your suggestions.

Itwe could say rude we would not have to say ugly players. Rude is rude please let us use that word.

Personally, I warn once and then write down their name to report. THis way, if I miss them after the game, I can either report them later or make sure that I don't play with them again.

I thought I was the only one who did this lol

My "Bad" Pirates list is just way too long lately.

Worse, the more they type, the less I can see. Although I sometimes am able to hide from other players, when my health is low, by going to the bubbles made by the sore losers who can't stop chatting.

One made me so mad the other day, calling me a lose.her when we lost game one of CTF, and saying I don't know how to play, etc., etc. (and I'm actually a pretty good player), that I waited until right before I was about to win game three to quit. And by quit, I mean I held the flag near our base and told the other team to go ahead, because I wasn't going to stop them, since "I am a lose.her, says rest of my team" It was worth the 100 credits.

I am not a great pirate, but I can hold my own. That being said, if I end up teamed up with a jerk, I have no problem throwing the game or teaching the other players some tricks. Nothing is more satisfying that to see a bad sport loose... :)

I don't think I'll ever understand how kids can be so mean. They're supposed to be so innocent but when stuff like this happens all I can imagine is people my nieces age (12, nearly 13) glaring at the computer screen while they yell terrible things at others just because of a video game. It's just a game. If you don't like that your team lost because of your partner, learn to play better and you won't lose. If you lost because the other team was better, learn to play better and you won't lose. But don't yell at people who have already learned (or who might be learning).

What I like is when one of them has been ripping into me and later sees me in the lobby and asks if I'm trading my Sparrow suit or my inferno. I'm not trading either one to anyone, but I tell them that I don't want to trade with someone so mean.

They need to remember there are people on the other side of the computer, and they have no idea who those people are. They could be an innocent little 8-10 year old or they could very well be a Host on a "player account" that they have so they won't get swamped.

It's one thing to think mean thoughts about other players and another to actually type them into the game. If everything I thought popped up in a speech bubble, I would probably be banned from VMK for a few centuries, if not longer. I try to keep what I actually type into the game reasonably polite because I don't know who else is reading it. It could be a little kid or staff. Complaints about lag or suggestions to try and help my team like: "Get the flag", "sink that (other team ship)" or "Go pirates" are fair in my opinion, but I won't go as far as to call anyone names I wouldn't want to be called. One really bad thing I did see in pirates, was someone who said something like look at my followed by a combination of symbols I won't copy here. I was tempted to tell her I hoped those were her eyes, but I didn't want to risk trouble for suggesting they weren't. Somehow she disappeared by the time the next round started, as there was an ai ship in her place.

Once I do sink, or even before, I do watch what others are doing to try and learn to play better so I am less likely to sink. I wish that more players would learn to do that instead of being mean. Who's the real loser anyway, the one who sinks and then gets mad at their teammate when the team loses or calls the other team cheaters, or the one who watches and learns from better players?

I dont play pirates anymore just for the fact of the mean-ness on there. I dont really see the need for it. It's getting completely out of hand!

Me, too. I refuse to play a game where I can be harassed and treated so poorly. I won't even let my daughter play anymore. VMK is supposed to be fun and when it is no longer fun, it is time to stop.

Thanks for posting this Mal. Not only are you asking VMK to do something about it, but you are offering solutions. I hope they take your suggestions seriously and do something quickly.

You need to use the contact button on VMK and send it in to them.
Which is what I'm told to do everything I mention something.

I've given some thought as to why this problem has sprung up in the pirates game. I think that the root of the problem is this:

Most of the offenders are tweens, teens, and young adults (I've deduced this from their conversations both in and out of the pirates game). These are the "gamers" who are growing up playing violent, shoot-'em-up, video/computer games. Unlike the Haunted Mansion and Fireworks vmk games, pirates is based on violence and stealing (shoot the ships and take their loot!). Have you ever seen a bunch of gamers get together with friends or siblings to play these favorite x-box, playstation, nintendo games? They become immersed in aggressive voice, action, and temperament. Now take the same aggressive gamer mindset and plunk it down in the vmk pirates game.

- They don't care that the opponent is a real-life person instead of computer-generated.
- They don't care that their aggressive talk hurts other people's feelings.
- They don't care that their smug, in-game celebrations (lol, yes!, yay we win!) shows their lack of compassion and their immaturity.
- They don't care because they are pretty much anonymous.
- They don't care because, as they often say--"it's just a game!"

VMK should have seen this coming! It's bad for the Disney image.

All of Mal's suggestions (and my suggestions in my previous thread about the same subject) should be seriously considered. If VMK can't come up with a solution soon, they should shut down the pirates game until they can. It's become the one rotten apple in the total VMK experience.

That has been done and will continue to be. I am trying to find other solutions to this serious problem.

linking to your thread...sorry I did not see it before. :goodvibes

If the gamer in my house got caught talking like that while playing with his friends that would be the end of his gaming days.....I grew up playing Video games and consider myself a gamer and I would never in a million years talk to others like these kids/adults talk to other players in the game.

There is no way I want Pirates to be SHUT DOWN...and why should it be that would only penalize the good players who play nice and by the rules of VMK

Shhhh!! Nothing to see here. Move along game designers! No, nein, non, ahneo, nie, siyo, laa. In any language, this is a bad idea.

I agree with almost every thought on this thread. But Lauralee.... please do not cut off my head to cure my toothache.

Despite all the worms in the apple, Pirates is the bee's knees, the cat's pajamas, all that and a bag of chips, da bomb, the best thing since sliced bread, the cream in my coffee, phat, the berries, and several British phrases I'm too embarrassed to repeat.

So, put the gun down. Let's all take a deep breath and back away slooowly. We all want to get out of here alive.
