Request for Action Please VMK....

I just have to chime in on this thread. So often there are players that lose so quickly and then proceed to tell you how to play the game. If they would pay attention to what they were doing instead of the chat they might actually improve their game.

As far as the rudeness, I have been called every dictionary dance there is under the sun. I keep a watch over my kids if they play pirates due to this happening.

VMK could be proactive and speed up the game by removing the chat option in this mini-game. I would be all for it. :thumbsup2

- They don't care that their smug, in-game celebrations (lol, yes!, yay we win!) shows their lack of compassion and their immaturity.

other than lol if it's not about something silly funny, there's nothing wrong for being happy for your team or your own success. :confused3 It's not rubbing their noses in their loss, like -haha you sock-, it's jsut another form of chearing.

In game, if I am sent to another lobby and can remember the correct player's name, I use the in game Help button and report another player feature. Then they get the message fresh and can look into it while the player is still online.

Really like the suggestion of having an instant "language against vmk values" option to reporting! :thumbsup2

If the gamer in my house got caught talking like that while playing with his friends that would be the end of his gaming days.....I grew up playing Video games and consider myself a gamer and I would never in a million years talk to others like these kids/adults talk to other players in the game.

There is no way I want Pirates to be SHUT DOWN...and why should it be that would only penalize the good players who play nice and by the rules of VMK

Mal, I agree with you--same rules apply in my house! I am not lumping all gamers into one bunch. I am talking about the "offenders" who get "immersed" in the aggressive side of video games. Hopefully, most gamers can keep it all in perspective (yea, it's a game, we have fun whether we win OR lose, because it's just fun to play the games). It's the ones who seemingly have little self-control who are ruining the game.

Another ingredient in this recipe is that people get frustrated enough with their own gaming skills, but when they have no control over how well their teammates play, this frustration bring out the worst in them--especially when there is a prize (although virtual) involved.

In reality, I don't see VMK shutting down the pirates game -- they have too much invested in it. If something isn't done soon, though, I foresee a bigger mess as this "snowball rolling down a hill" gains momentum.

WHAT?????? :faint: Might as well go play fireworks if I can't chat... :confused3

What would happen to all of our friendly flag games without being able to talk about coffee and food and who's going to shoot down King... pirate:

Yup! Most good sports do their celebrating "after" they have won the game. However, it's the offenders who are constantly celebrating throughout the game. Those who lol!, yes!, yay! we are winning! anytime they or their teammates make a shot, get the gold, sink a ship, steal the flag, etc. who get on my nerves. That is unnecessary celebrating.

Hmmm, I'm not quite sure about that. When watching my son's soccer games, if his team scores a goal, I'm clapping and yelling "YES!!" (I try to keep my "woots" to myself :rotfl2: ) I don't wait until after the game is over to "celebrate". I don't consider myself a "bad sport" for cheering on each and every goal. Yes, it is aggravating if you are losing (trust me, I've been known to want to throw my laptop across the room bc the winning team said Woot! at the end....LOL!) but I consider that *my* problem, not the winning team's problem.

Very true! Good point. Yea, I cheer on my kids too. Lol, but I still find all that excessive celebrating (the kind I perceive being done in an "in your face" negative tone) gets on my nerves, whether I am winning or losing. Maybe in part because we have such a small playing field in the game. When too many players cheer on, I have trouble seeing what I'm doing with all those word balloons popping up.

Yes I agree and lose the educational value like learning about smart food. And the play by play of how good it tastes and of course what a mess it is making on your keyboard and poor mouse.

I was playing the other day with my daughter trying to teach her how to play. We were using AI players on one side and us on another for about 3 games. Well someone joined and not noticing I started the game. I could not beleive the words coming out of the other team aimed at my daughter!!! My 5yo ended up dropping the mouse and went off to her room crying. When I tell you I was mad, that isn't even scratching the surface. Any mom's know the feeling when someone hurts one of your kids, anyway I proceeded to finish the game and still say gg at the end. Beleive me I wanted to do a dictionary dance marathon on this player, but decided to take the high road. Bright side is we ended up winning and my daughter got her first key from it which was a highlight in her VMK day. I used contact us and the help feature on VMK to report the player, and am hoping if enough of us do something will be done. I never played pirates unless it was for a quest, but now it's one of my favorite games. Here's hoping something can and will be done.

... I agree pirates is a very unpleasant game to play...

While I agree that players can turn nasty in pirates, i must argue that pirates is not an unpelasant game to play. Some people can be unpleasant in pirates. There is a giant difference.

The game is not the issue. The people are the issue.

I am not in this thread referring to players who say Woot, yay, WooHoo, We rock etc...unless of course it is followed by "in you face". Everyone is entitled to alittle fun and afterall it is fun to win.... :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

I am talking about the players you say things like:

You Stink

Lose.her

cheat.her

and that is the nicer ones of the ones I mean....then there are the dictionary dances for words we will not use here.

Like Mal, I don't mind at all if someone says gg or yay, or we win! or something, it is the insults that are awful. I also don't like that when people who are "level tree" announce it during a level one game and then just slaughter us crummy players who are only trying to improve our skills and get some credits! LOL - I am half joking -they are welcome to play, but remember, on level one, some people really are just beginners (or really lousy, like me) and we would like a chance to sometimes win so we can get better.

It's one thing to think mean thoughts about other players and another to actually type them into the game. If everything I thought popped up in a speech bubble, I would probably be banned from VMK for a few centuries, if not longer.

I laughed when I read this, imagining if every thought was a speech bubble in real life. Oh, the trouble we would all cause!

I have never seen anyone type any useful information in pirates. Maybe I've always been with bad players. I'd like to see any text removed from pirates. Usually, people are restating the obvious.

Disney why are you picking on all my posts. And if I was a kid I would be so hurt. And yes in some ways I am hurt. What I said I stand by when the players are being rude then the game becomes unpleasant. So yes it is not really the game but the players. But did you really need to pick this out. Please be more sensitive. For you never know the person you are picking on may have learning issue or other problems. And to pick out grammar is just not fair.

I've given some thought as to why this problem has sprung up in the pirates game. I think that the root of the problem is this:

Most of the offenders are tweens, teens, and young adults (I've deduced this from their conversations both in and out of the pirates game). These are the "gamers" who are growing up playing violent, shoot-'em-up, video/computer games. Unlike the Haunted Mansion and Fireworks vmk games, pirates is based on violence and stealing (shoot the ships and take their loot!). Have you ever seen a bunch of gamers get together with friends or siblings to play these favorite x-box, playstation, nintendo games? They become immersed in aggressive voice, action, and temperament. Now take the same aggressive gamer mindset and plunk it down in the vmk pirates game.

- They don't care that the opponent is a real-life person instead of computer-generated.
- They don't care that their aggressive talk hurts other people's feelings.
- They don't care that their smug, in-game celebrations (lol, yes!, yay we win!) shows their lack of compassion and their immaturity.
- They don't care because they are pretty much anonymous.
- They don't care because, as they often say--"it's just a game!"

VMK should have seen this coming! It's bad for the Disney image.

All of Mal's suggestions (and my suggestions in my previous thread about the same subject) should be seriously considered. If VMK can't come up with a solution soon, they should shut down the pirates game until they can. It's become the one rotten apple in the total VMK experience.

About the

Do you think that their are times that "lol" is appropriate? I myself (ONLY EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE) have a lol because something funny happened. I'm thinking you mean saying lol just because someone died and they won and the other team didn't? I just say it when something funny happens.

I hope nobody takes my " LOL " in pirate the wrong way most of the time when I say " LOL " I am laughing at myself :rotfl2:

Well, they had a good reason for making the pirates game. They have a huge attraction in disneyland, and probably thought it would be fun to make a game people would like about it. I myself think the game was a lot safer when they hadn't changed it. Capture the flag has so many bugs, as all of you know. If neither team got the flag or has it on the ship, and you have the same amount of gold, Lady Luck gives a random team the victory? I mean, come on! It has nothing to do with how well the teams played, I just don't think this is fair. Also, when you die (this is in both ship battle and capture the flag) you sometimes lose all your gold, which isn't fair at all. The staff said you lose half your gold, not all... come on vmk, please take Mal's suggestions! :guilty:

Everyone hope for changes!

I sometimes see "No Fair!" but sometimes I see "gg" and "gl." Someone was cursing, I said well be careful you'll get banned for that language. I saw someone else in Pirates lobby saying the F word. (With another letter)
I reported her, hopefully she'll get a long ban.
