Reputations and Reviews

Gosh, are tastes subjective or WHAT? We would be the folks who enjoy the Whispering Canyon (but I was temped the last time we went to ask our server to chew the ribs for us first). Olivia's has a good basic soup/salad/sandwich combo for lunch for less than $10 that's just fine. And while my burger at Sci-Fi back in July had passed through the crematorium, my daughter had one of the best pasta dishes there I've ever had at Disney. Go figure.

Still underwhelmed with Planet Hollywood. Nine Dragons is OK, nuthin' special. Boma, on the other hand, was just stellar.

I'm just leery of the WDW steak houses, mostly because I can grill a steak at home that would cause you to rend your garment with joy. I get all weepy when I pay megabucks for a steak that doesn't cut it ... have y'all run across anything on property comparable to a Ruth's Chris or Morton's? If so, I'll give it a shot.

Dreamfinder:
The steaks at Shula's are right up there with Ruth's Chris and Mortons.

Thanks, Uncleromulus. I've tended to agree with your posts, so when we're down at AKL over New Year's, we may just cut the kids loose and give it a shot.

Just for the record, I've never run across an inedible meal at WDW, but I have had one or two that were mediocre, at best. For instance, the atmosphere at San Angel Inn can't be beat, but in four or five tries, I've not been impressed. Seems that my lunch experiences have been a little better than dinner. The Coral Reef - well, I've been tempted to go back since their chef change (can't remember the gentleman's name who came from Citrico's, I believe), but that's a high-stakes gambe for us.

Hey Dreamfinder when's the BBQ?:bounce: :Pinkbounc

Uncleromulus...I have a res. for Shula's based on your review alone...so yes you get to know a posters taste and if you might like the same thing.

I have to agree that the difference between the lunch menu and the dinner menu can effect the review.

Sometimes we dine at a restaurant just for the atmosphere not so much the food. I don't care for Sci-Fi but my boys LOVE it.

We really enjoy Whispering Canyon Cafe, Rainforest Cafe, and Sci-Fi - all of which get some awful reviews. We think they have really fun atmosphere and good food, too.

We also think the Pepper Market at Coronado Springs is without a doubt the best food court on Disney property. We really enjoyed it! Some people hate it. Go figure . . .

On the other hand, I think the poor reviews I have read of Nine Dragons and Alfredos are right on the money - average food at really high prices. Not bad, just nothing special.

We also really don't care for Chef Mickey's, which a lot of people rave about. We found the food cold, unappetizing, and really picked over. The characters were fun, but not enough to make up for the yucky food.

I've learned to totally ignore what other people think of a restaurant until I have tried it for myelf.

Our absolute favorites include:
Ohana
Flying Fish
Spoodles
Artist Point
Boma
Jiko
Restaurant Marrakesh
San Angel Inn

I'm sure that some of those will end up on somebody's "Never Again" list. It's all just totally subjective.

Our absolute family favorite is BOMAs - must try it every trip!!! We need our Zebra Domes! (By the way, we'll be back Dec 7!)

We also like 50s Prime Time - well, the kids and I like it, DH goes cause we like it so much! Can't wait for Auntie Claire! Shakes are also great!

Sci Fi - Although we don't eat here every trip, we've eaten here a few times and have always enjoyed it - we get burgers and shakes and they are great!!!

We've enjoyed our meals at LeCellier - I really like the cheese soup!

Last summer, we ate at Beaches and Cream - DH and I did not enjoy our burger there! One of my DD LOVED hers, but the rest of us were disappointed.

I always read everyone's reviews of the restaurants they ate at and enjoyed.
