I'm planning my first trip to WDW with my family of 7 and have come to the conclusion that renting a DVC villa would be our best option-- but I don't know where to begin. Help!

We have rented points from individuals twice with no issues. Just get a confirmation # before you pay in full and use a cc on paypal so you are protected. Davids is highly rated on this site as well. You just pay a couple of bucks more.

We used David's for our trip last year. Highly recommend them!

If you have never been to WDW before, you might want to consider purchasing a reservation directly from Disney. DVC rentals don't usually offer any cancellation. Meaning if you have to cancel, you lose whatever you have already paid. And more than likely, you will have already paid in full. But if you book with Disney, you will more than likely get a subtantial refund if not full refund. They don't have the booking constraints a member has using DVC points.

At the top of the DVC Rent/Trade Board there are some sticky threads (meaning they are always at the top). Read them.

And if you get any unsolicitied offers for point rentals, ignore them. Do not respond to any emails that you did not initiate. That's how some people have gotten cheated on a "DVC Points Rental".

Yes you can. It tends to be a bit on the pricey side. But if reserved direct from Disney, you will get daily housekeeping. Often the smaller DVC resorts are not available for cash ressies, often you can pick from OKW, SSR, and sometimes AKV. You can price them out on Disney's site.

Sent from my iPhone using DISBoards App please excuse any typos and autocorrects!

Of course if you're worried about having to cancel a DVC reservation made via a third party, you can also buy trip insurance.

The answer is yes, but I'm guessing you are looking to save some $ by renting a DVC reservation. There are reasons you save money. DVC members have strict rules about cancellation of reservations. Depending on use year, timing, etc a member can lose their points if you cancel, so typically all payments are final. Trip insurance is highly recommended in case you end up having to cancel. David's rentals is a highly reputable company on here. You will pay $13 per point with them, and they will do the legwork for you. You tell them what you are looking for, and they will find it for you if they can. You can search the rental boards here and could pay anywhere from $8 to $13 per point depending on resort/timing/etc. My recommendation would be David's unless you know someone personally who is owns a DVC and wants to rent to you.

At $13/point Davids rentals is on the high side of DVC rentals but what you are paying for is the security and safety that most first time renters want.

As a first time WDW visitor I would follow the advice of Deb & Bill if I were you as there are certainly more restrictions for those renting points from DVC members than staying on a cash reservation.

As a DVC member I have been on both sides of the equation...renter and rentee and there is certainly a high level of trust involved by both parties.

As around your office to see if you can find someone who is a DVC member or ask your friends if they know someone who is..you will be surprised to find that there are plenty of us around.

My first time renting points out was the perverbial "leap of faith" but now I have a great relationship with a family 3000 miles away who rent my points every other year...they even send pics of their Disney trips.

I also used David's for my first trip to WDW last year http://dvcrequest.com
There are useful tools on his website for pricing, and floorplan views and desciptions of the different resorts.

using PayPal will not protect you. https://www.paypal.com/us/webapps/helpcenter/article/?solutionId=207124&m=SRE

using your credit card may, but I would ask in advance so you are not surprised when you go to file a claim and they reject it.

The Timeshare Store (another DIS advertiser) also rents DVC points.
