Can someone help with details of grocery items avail. in the trading posts. I'm flying in and tent camping with limited cooler space for leftovers. Everything I pack must be needed and more than once or it can't come.
Will I need a can opener or will all cans sold there have the pop tops?
Do they sell fresh fruit?
Do they sell items in relatively small quantities? Thinking specifically of canned veggies, butter, mayo, lunch meat, cheeses.

TIA

I don't remember exactly what they sell. I could guess, but I don't want to tell you wrong.

However...

I know that my mom has ordered merchandise from WDW before, and has spoken with CM in the Trading Posts.

I'm not sure what the phone number is, but I'd think that if you called 1-407-WDISNEY someone should be able to either transfer you or give you the number so that you could ask.

That may be the best way to verify what they do and do not sell.

As best as I remember they do carry the fol fresh items, tomatoes, potatoes, bananas, oranges, and maybe apples, no carrots, lettuce, cucumbers, etc. Not a lot of canned stuff IIRC and nothing as fancy as tomatoes, corn, etc., but I might be wrong there and don't know about just pop type cans ... bring a can opener/ They also have mustard, ketchup, but maybe not any type of relish/pickles and not sure about Mayo. The do have lunch meats, cheese, milk, juice, etc. and a very limited amount of frozen items mainly at the Settlement TP. For cold food stuff both TP probably have two of the commercial two door glass front refers like you see in a typical supermarket and maybe one freezer chest for Ice Cream bars, etc. The one other double door refer has milk/beer/wine in it IIRC.

Again don't take any of this as gospel since I think the only food item I have ever bought at the TP is a tomatoe for Tacos and was surprised they had that and the price was not that bad.

There is a fair, but limited, amount of food at Meadow Trading Post. Things like lunch meats & cheese (Kraft singles), bread, donuts, cereal, snack items, some (not always so fresh) fruit, sometimes there are onions, tomatoes & baking potatos - but sometimes not, milk, oj, hot dogs, some canned goods - but not many - coffee - ground & instant, condiments. Do bring a can opener with you. Also, if you plan to grocery shop at Meadow like you would at home...don't! The selection is about the same as what you would find at a convenience store (except for all the Disney trinkets). The prices are about 3 times the amount of a convenience store. If you will be renting a car, ask the front desk for directions to Wal-Mart, Winn-Dixie, or Publix. They are all about 8-9 miles from FtW.

Thanks guys, and no I won't have a rental car and need so few groceries that I won't be doing the groc. delivery service either, so far I've packed a fair amount of food. We'll just muddle thru and if we find we just can't eat, well then I guess Trail's End or Crockett's it is. I am happy to hear about donuts though, it would be a real treat for us to have some and I'm not sure I could get them there without crushing them.

Its boxed donut's not fresh.

You can also do the following, although it will take a bit of time. The prices are better.

Take a bus to DTD, get off at the Pleasure Island stop, and instead of going toward PI, go the opposite direction, cross the street at the light and there is the Hess station. Bottled water, beer, and soft drinks are at real world prices. Plus some of the convenience items. Often times they have soft drinks at 2 six packs for $5 or $6.

If you are up for a real walk, get off at the DTD Marketplace stop, cross 535 at the light and take a walk down Hotel Plaza Boulevard and walk about a mile to Goodings. Just bring some type of rolling backpack or rolling something to walk back with your stuff. (You can get Pepsi products at Goodings)

Have you thought of sending yourself a care package of the things you will want before you arrive to be waiting for you ? You can also catch someone in the campground to open a can for you if you need to, most tt and big rigs carry a can opener and people are all over the place so to catch a neighbor to open a can would be no big deal. Or maybe even catch a neighbor going to the grocery store and hop a ride, not a big deal in my book.

The care package I'm sending myself is a window A/C. It had about 1-2" of "extra" space after I took the window installation kit and manual out so everything I packed in it had to be small but heavy or directly related to the A/C so if the A/C got lost in transport or arrived late no big deal. Here's what made the cut: a bubble wrapped hammer, bubble wrapped metal tent stakes, a tarp and clips for the rain fly I make, screen sheets I use to keep bugs from gettin in around my a/c, and 2 rolls of quarters for ice/laundry.

And yes I know the donuts will be boxed but beats nothing.

Can't wait to offer up full trip report on flying and camping when this is all done. What an adventure.

It might would have been cheaper just to rent a car for one day and go to walmart and buy your groceries and your air conditioner and get all the things you will need for the week or even bite the bullet and get a cab, or even limo, I don't know just thinking out loud.

I would do the cab idea or something. A loaf of bread in June was $3.60. I bet a cab ride would pay for itself in the savings, depending on how much you planned to get. I would think it would be worth it alone if you needed fresh veggies or fruit. The supply was limited.

I don't know about groceries, but I do know that beer is prohibitively expensive.

The problem with waiting until you arrive to buy an A/C is that you really need to practice camping with it (I had never used an A/C to camp before). So, I bought it, figured out how and where to best set it up to ventilate and drain, and make sure it will work. I plan on selling it barely used and in its original box with all accessories when I return, or maybe I can get someone at FW to buy it from me. Do you think WDW will mind if I have a yard sale at the end of my trip to reduce my load? I'd be willing to sell camping gear, tent, A/C, even my clothes. If I could sell enough stuff, I'd be able to sell piece of luggage.

Um...isn't that why we have kids :confused3 Here carry this, it's just around the next bend :lmao:
