Reports from Disapalooza??

I had a great time at DAP!! The dragon breathing out fire was incredible, and I loved how well themed the area was!! Butterbeer? What can be said other than fabulous!!

I wish I had more time to spend with everyone else who was there! The night went by too quickly?

What was everyone's favorite part?

We had a fantastic time as well! We saw many new and old friends and enjoyed the details and the rides. 3 hours went by way too fast. Loved it!

My boyfriend and I had a really good time. I am very much obsessed with Harry Potter, so I was really excited for this party. I only have a few good friends on the DIS and they didn't go, so I didn't really talk to anyone else. But I can tell you about the great time we had anyway (hope your ready to read a lot because I'm still excited about the party!).

They let us in about 15 minutes after 9, which was a little disappointing. There was a cash bar to utilize while we waited, but I was saving up room for butterbeer so we didn't buy anything.

Once we were finally let in, it seemed like everyone ran to either the rides or the very long line to meet the podcasters. We decided to swim the other way, so we started to go in the shops to look around. I have never, ever, been the only two customers in Weasley's Wizard Wheezes. It was actually a really great time, we got to check out a lot of the details and take our time looking around at everything.

Next, we ducked into Ollivander's Wand show. It has been a dream of mine ever since I first went to Hogsmeade to get picked for the wand show, unfortunately Ollivander has always picked kids in every show I've seen. I figured I might have a good chance this night since there wouldn't be so many kids. Anyway, we saw that there were already two kids in line so we left again and moved on to more shops. I'm not sure why the creature shop doesn't have any albino dragon stuff, my boyfriend has been looking for something with that dragon on it forever.

The ice cream line wasn't too long at this early point, so we got in line and got the toffee and strawberry chocolate ice cream. The toffee was ok but the strawberry chocolate was delicious!!

Right next door to the ice cream shop was a shop that sold drinks, it was absolutely empty, even though the outdoor butterbeer station had a huge line. I don't think people had discovered this store yet. So we walked right in and got some delicious frozen butterbeer, and it came in the stein!!!! I was so excited.

We checked back at Ollivander's, this time there was no line so we eagerly waited, then some kids walked up behind us so we left. At this point all the employees knew I was trying to get picked and were encouraging me to go in anyway, but I said we'd come back.

We discovered that there were some bottled drinks for free, so we picked up a few gillywaters and lemonades. We went back outside Diagon Alley to have a short visit with Stan Shunpike at the Knight Bus. He was lots of fun as usual, and the shrunken head was hilarious. They always call me a Weasley (I have red hair). We headed back inside and back to the wand show, I was determined to just give it a go this time. There were a few other girls in line so we joined them, soon we were let in and a few more people came in behind (some of them younger, around 12-14). I was very nervous, I thought I might have a shot since I had a Gryffindor hat and tie on and was carrying Hedwig. I was third in the line up of guests. Ollivander started to inspect all of us, he started with the two girls to the left of me, looked me over and moved on :(

But then suddenly he turned back and picked me!!! I was so excited I didn't know what to do with myself! I walked up to the desk and set Hedwig down. We went through two wands, who did not perform well for me. Then suddenly Ollivander found my wand and the lights flickered and the wind picked up and I think I almost cried. 16 inches, vine and dragon heart string :)

The show was over and I was running to the register with my wand. That show is seriously the best sales pitch ever, how can you not buy the wand that chooses you?! Even better, the wand was interactive, so we could run around and perform spells for the rest of the night!

To celebrate, I got another frozen butterbeer and we headed off for the Hogwarts Express. I just love the queue here, with the little convenience shop that might really be in the underground, and they even had a guitar playing guy playing for everybody in line. We walked right up and were put into a compartment with another really nice couple that we made friends with on the ride.

I'm sorry to say I didn't pay much attention to the train ride, I was too mesmerized by my new wand. When we arrived at Hogsmeade station the doors slid open, but everyone just stayed seated and we turned around for the journey back.

Once back, we listened to Celestina Warbeck while waiting in the outdoor drink line so that we could get something other than butterbeer. I think all of the Wizarding World's drinks are amazing, they have this great orange drink, and Brian got a new peach drink that he really liked.

After our drinks were done, we got a free locker and walked onto Gringott's. So weird going on the elevator with only 5 other people, that thing is usually packed. The ride was a lot more fun than I remembered it being. Once off, we were going to go on again but realized there was only half an hour left in the party and we wanted to do some spells, so we wandered around and I got to play with my new wand. We made one more stop in the indoor drink store and I got yet another frozen butterbeer. We also asked for an empty stein and they were more than happy to give us one. There were other drinks available there, so Brian got something green to try and it was good. They were also handing out the pumpkin juices with the neat bottles there. And even better, they were serving the soft serve butterbeer ice cream, so we didn't have to wait in the huge ice cream line.

After that there were only 5 minutes left so we sat on the steps near Gringotts and finished our treats. I did not like the butterbeer soft serve near so much as I like the frozen butterbeer. We saw that the cash register in that store was near $7,000, so I think the employees were ringing up the drinks (even though no one had to pay for them, it was probably for inventory purposes).

At exactly midnight all the lights for the shops went out and we knew it was time to head out. We headed to the buses with the other Disney guests and were quickly on the way back to Pop Century.

All in all it was a great night! I did try to meet the podcast team, but the line was really long and later when the receiving line broke up most of the team was still there but it was really hard to get a turn with them because they were constantly engaged in conversation with other people.

Hope someone enjoyed my long winded reply :)

OhioStaeBuckEyeFan - I really enjoyed your description of your great night. Even though I'm not into Harry Potter (have never seen a movie/read a book/been to Universal), I thoroughly enjoyed your details and excitement at being picked for the wand. Hope you continue to enjoy it, and it continues to make you smile! :)

what a fabulous party report!! thank you!!
3 hours does seem short to get everything done, but still sounds amazing!!

Oh my gosh you need to read Harry potter.... Immediately. So good. I'm glad you enjoyed my report :)

I definitely enjoyed it. It's the only "trip report" I've seen from the event. Thanks for sharing.

No problem, hopefully more people share so I can see how others did the night differently.

what a fabulous party report!! thank you!!

The 3 hours really did fly by (actually, more like 2 hours and 45 minutes thanks to the delay).

Your welcome, and yes, more people share!! There is a weekend coming up, so no excuses!

What a great report. You certainly crammed in a lot in three hours

If you think that's a lot you should read some of my star wars weekends trip reports. I am the master of getting stuff done yet still taking time to enjoy it all.

First and foremost I want to thank the Podcast team for a wonderful event!

My group consisted of my Mother and two younger sisters. Our plan was to go to Universal early and eat at Citywalk before heading to the party. We made our way to Universal's parking garage and got caught up in a massive line. There were very few team members to direct traffic and people kept getting out of line in hopes of passing a few cars. We finally parked and made our way to Citywalk. This was our first time at Universal and we were impressed at the atmosphere. It was a very busy Saturday night and we found a bench to discuss Plan B. We were afraid that dinner would take too long and we would miss the credential pick up time for the party. We considered grabbing some fast food, but we all agreed to wait until the party and feast at Leaky Cauldron. (we all enjoyed Craig's 2.0 podcast)

We made our way to the stage and enjoyed some DJ music before making our way to the Studios. The party entrance was clearly marked and we headed to the credential area. We noticed the Martin family, but it was kind of dark and we decided to wait to thank them during the party. We picked up our lanyards (much easier than I had stressed about) and were soon on our way to Diagon Alley.

Just the walk in the empty park was fun! The team members were so nice and offered to take photos of my group as we made our way to the back of the park. The team members, in fact were incredible throughout the night! They really added to the excitement and fun of the evening.

They brought us to an area in front of Fear Factor where a cash bar was available. We really wanted to indulge, but our stomachs were screaming at this point, having only eaten lunch at Yak and Yeti at 11:00. We were able to thank John and Kevin, who were waiting with their fans. Craig was also there, but he was talking to another guest, so I didn't want to interrupt. We did see Pete twice, but he was busy on the phone with last minute details and we didn't want bother him with our fan crushing. There was a little bit of a delay in entering D.A. We must have been at the end of the line because it was almost 9:30 before we were made it inside. We had decided to hold off going into Diagon Alley during the initial rush and go to the Hogwarts Express. We made our way to Kings Cross, stopping at an empty Night Bus. We loved the interaction and have some terrific photos. We made our way to the train next and was probably one of the first dozen to ride. We rode with a wonderful family with two small sons who were a delight.

The train ride was very cool. Loved the effects, but Craig was right about the voices. Wish that Emma Watson had contributed.

After some quick window shopping at Kings Cross, we finally made our way to Diagon Alley! How awesome to go through the brickwall and see Gringotts in the distance! The podcast crew had a receiving line right in front of the Leaky Cauldron and there was quite a line to meet them. We decided to let the line calm down and take a quick trip on Gringotts. The queue is incredible! How awesome to have the opportunity to walk in an empty queue. My mother and one of my sisters decided to chicken out after the elevator. My youngest sister and I continued to our ride vehicles. We got as far as the second room area when we broke down. We waited with lights on for several minutes before they brought us back to the loading dock. They did offer to let us return to the queue, but I didn't want to go through again while the rest of my party waited. Plus it was time to eat!

We made our way to the Leaky Cauldron and it was empty! We went up to the counter and my sister started her usual spiel about how she was a vegan and what menu items were vegan friendly. The team member chuckled and said they were not serving food tonight, but would we like a butterbeer? Words can not express the looks my mom and sisters gave me as we ordered our butterbeers and made our way to a table. I kept apologizing and showing the Disapalooza information in an effort to clear my name. lol Luckily the butterbeer is very filling and we made our way through the shops. Knockturn Alley was especially cool. My mother was spooked by one of the wizard team members there. It was hilarious!

We finally decided to give Gringotts another try. My sister and I went as scouts this time alone. Luckily no technical difficulties and we had a fantastic ride. We both agreed my mom and sister could easily ride and we made our way to the entrance to gather them. We made our way to the queue just as the team member closed the entrance! I think it was 11:38 and we begged to have a chance to ride it together. Unfortunately it was a no go and my mom and sister never had an opportunity to ride. The evening was wonderful, but we just seemed to encounter some bad luck. We grabbed a Gilly Water for the long walk back to the car, desperate to find somewhere to eat at 12:30am. We decided to order a pizza and happily had our late meal around 2am, discussing how much fun we had at the party.

On a related note... I bought a chocolate frog and jelly beans for a gift for my children. I arrived too late in the evening for them to sample so I put the gifts on the kitchen island. Sometime during the night my dog got up and ate the entire chocolate frog! She has never got into food like that before! She ate through the plastic and cardboard. I had to rush her to the emergency vet to get her stomach pumped. Luckily she is fine, but it is ironic since her name is Luna Lovegood.

Thanks, again to the Dis crew and the Universal team members who really impressed us! Universal will definitely be on our itinerary on our next Orlando vacation.

We had a wonderful time. We got stuck on Gringotts but we had great fellow disers and were able to get through and then we rerode. Tried Butterbear ice cream. Loved it will get again. Went on the train twice and just enjoyed the atmosphere. Also got to meet Kevin and John. And I got to see my Fav Celestina Warbeck and her banshees. Knockturn alley was busy. I had a wonderful time. I had even had some great interaction while waiting for my sister to leave the ice cream store. I held the door open for people leaving. And also got to meet some wonderful fellow disers.

And rode the bus back to the hotel with Tom Bell. I didn't get a chance to say hello.

Thanx for the awesome detailed report! Sorry you had some "trying experiences", but nice you had a great time overall. I"m glad your doggie is okay after eating the chocolate - one of Ryno's dogs ate some chocolate and he was talking about him also being okay during the recent FFF show.

We were on that bus, too!

What was the deal with the leaky cauldron? I remember John saying it was open for food at your own expense?

We had a GREAT time! I was just as excited to meet the podcast team as I was for anything else. I felt bad for the team as it looked like they spent almost the entire time greeting people in line. Pete was standing in the same spot when we left as he was when we entered! We did catch a glimpse of Ryno trying to use his interactive wand...looked like he needed a bit more practice.
