Reporter Incident at the Jets Practice

See, that's what I'm talking about. She dressed like a slut, so she deserved it. Oh, it was probably reported by some jealous, less-attractive female. That's how women are, you know. Catty, catty, catty. :sad2:

It surprised me too. I can't believe so many people think that because of the way she dressed she deserved to be harassed. That she was "asking for it."

What happened to these men, who are also at work, acting "professionally" while on the job?

I agree if she wants to be taken seriously, she needs to be professional. I could only find professional shots of her and ones from last years Super Bowl. She dressed like a street walker.. Please!

And I also can't stand female sports reporters. I always get the impression that they don't really have a clue about football. They just got their job because they're married to someone important or look like a runway model.

Wow, way to insult all the female sports broadcasters who have worked hard to get where they are in their careers.

I 100% agree with you!

Why should a man have to act professionally in his own locker room, when he's naked and joking around with the boys? Are you serious? This woman wears jeans that looked like they had to be spray painted on and prances into a professional man's locker room. Sorry but expect some whistling.. additionally Azteca TV promotes her as a model first and foremost. Therefore her beauty and looks is why she is getting access to Mark Sanchez and the Jets, not because of her "reporting" skills.

She didn't work hard to get where she is at. She was born with a body that is illegal in most countries.. She is promoted as a model by her employer.

According to the articles I read and the things I heard on the news today, she has also described herself as the "sexiest sports reporter in Mexico". In every picture I've seen of her, she's dressed in clothing that seems to be intended to cultivate that image. I'm confused about what reaction she was expecting. If I didn't want whistling and catcalls, I wouldn't be calling myself the sexiest anything or wearing painted on jeans or skirts so short they look like belts! :lmao:

I haven't read all the replies but I saw her on tv talking about this last night. I think that if she wanted to be treated like a professional she should have dressed like a professional. I also don't think a few whistles are a big deal on a football field. As for the locker room, I wouldn't want a man coming into the woman's locker room and don't think women should be going into the men's. If you do, you should be prepared to see them changing and going to and from the shower in the buff, as I do when I'm in the locker room.

You want to be treated like a professional, you dress professional....

You want to be treated like a tramp, you dress like a tramp...
...:confused3

,:rolleyes1,:rotfl:, I hear ya on that one!!

Wow, that's cold. I don't think that Hannah Storm "doesn't have a clue".

Has anyone here ever seen Mexican TV? The way this reporter is dressed is nothing unusual for them.

I can't believe some of these comments.

I swear nobody is actually LISTENING to her interviews.

SHE ISN'T THE ONE COMPLAINING. She has said many times that she doesn't know what the hubbub is about and doesn't consider what happened to be harassment. She's on the news because the media is making a big deal about this after a complaint was made by some other journalist.

ON the issue of dress...nobody will ever convince me that it is okay to harass or make lewd comments/gestures etc or even to whistle or catcall at anyone because they are dressed in any particular way. I have been the victim of harassment and the blame people attempted to heap on me was just disgusting. What did you do to encourage them? What were you wearing? You have to expect that behavior in a room full of men....and on and on. NAUSEATING.

:worship:

Maybe the person who reposted it was a woman who was offended that the guys weren't whistling at her instead?:rolleyes1
:lmao::lmao:
God, the misogyny in this thread is really disturbing.
I agree--but because of the people saying things like she was dressed like a slut or tramp and deserves XY or Z and people saying women can;t make good sports reporters, etc. The light hearted joke you quoted though was just that, a joke--not even really made at anyone's expense--weird poster to choose to bring up this point. :confused3

Somehow the words did not come through in this quote:confused3 It is about how women can't be good sports reporters and must have just married someone to get to where they are. Do I even NEED to say anything for everyone to get how offensive that is?

Thank you for posting this--you beat me to it. Dress codes are different for different jobs and different regions. She is not dressed like a tramp--she is dressed like a reporter from her culture.

I keep thinking that too. She is NOT complaining about what happened.

Respectfully snipped.

Actually I think most of the people here have acknowledged that she is not the one complaining about it.

However, the fact remains that she is using it as a springboard to appear on every bit of news programming that she can. Would it be out of the realm of possibility that it was a setup? We still don't know WHO the person was that reported what was going on. In addition, I've read so many articles on this and every one seems to have a different account of whether the harrassment took place on the sidelines, in the locker room, somewhere else. So we're left with just a vague description of some incident that occurred somewhere, and was reported by somebody. I can certainly see why people would be skeptical about the incident and her motives.

Especially, as we've seen, when she bills herself as the "Sexiest" sports reporter in Mexico.

You do know how guests are booked on news shows don't you? SHE doesn't call them and say "I'd like to appear..." the news outlet gets the story and then CALLS HER and asks her to appear. She has been making the rounds, at their request, essentially DEBUNKING the story that she was harassed. It's the news outlets that continue to make a to-do about the story, not her.

This is truly a non-story at this point. Her particular aesthetic is culturally acceptable in the country where she lives and appears on television.

OK going to weigh in here as somebody who actually worked in the field...

I worked on the television broadcasts for a major sports team here in NY (not the Jets) for 8 years. I worked behind the scenes assisting the on-air talent with their portion of the broadcast. My job did take me into the locker room areas, getting players for interviews, injury reports, quotes from players etc. Did I see players in various stages of undress? Yes. Did I care? No. Did I view it a a job perk? Absolutely not! I was there to do a job. If I had stopped to oogle, the end result would most likely be dead air...and my head on a platter! Does anyone question whether a doctor seeing someone sitting on the table naked a job perk? I have to say that I had a very professional relationship with the members of our team and of opposing teams -- being there for so many years you see the same players over and over. If the players see that you are taking you job seriously then they treat you that way. I have worked with other young female reporters (who went on to do some work for ESPN) who made it a point to cross the line professionally and look to the players to fill her social calendar. She was a joke to the guys on the team (one specifically referred to her as the nightmare).

Oh, and my manner of dress was about the same as what I wear in my current job as an attorney. Your attire says more about your attitude towards your job than you may think.

I don't get that one either :confused3. *I* have season tickets for the Chicago Cubs. *I* have season tickets for the Wisconsin Badgers football team. My DH goes with me and has become a sports fan in his own right but it is *me* who buys the tickets. *He* buys tickets to the opera :rotfl:.

When I go to the games HALF of the fans are women. HALF. I don't know why there is some weird idea that sports is just for men and that only men can comment or report on it. FWIW, the biggest problem I have with female reporters (of any kind) is that the vast majority are young and very pretty while that does not seem to be as much of a requirement for male reporters.

Well I know that some men get freaked out if a woman knows more about sports than they do...

No, you're right, she isn't the one complaining so most of the rest of this is really moot. Someone else complained on her behalf, or complained because the way the men were acting made them uncomfortable. However, the reporter did say on Twitter while all this was going on that she was "dying of embarrassment". Personally I think that could be taken more than one way. She could actually be unpleasantly embarrassed, or she could be "embarrassed" the way my friend was when her boyfriend sent her dozens of roses and balloons at school once, and she kept saying she was embarrassed by the attention while obviously enjoying it. It's impossible to tell from just the typed phrase.

I think some of this may have been blown out of proportion. I've seen people who appear to be outraged that the men were throwing the ball at her, but they weren't. They were throwing it near her. They have the self professed "sexiest sports reporter in Mexico" on their sideline. I don't think it's surprising that they might want an excuse to be near her. Lewd comments are obviously inappropriate, but do we know specifically what they were saying? The articles I read didn't say what the comments were. There's nothing wrong with them looking at her, and unless she made it clear that the attention (and whistling) were unwelcome, I don't think the men should be expected to know that it was. Since she is projecting the image of "sexiest sports reporter in Mexico" I think it's reasonable to expect that people are going to respond differently to her than they would to someone like MissFitt who could be even more attractive than the reporter but chose to conduct herself professionally. If she didn't want that sort of attention - or wasn't at least willing to put up with it - then I would think she'd choose a different image to project while she was working. This isn't a random woman walking down the street. This is a public persona who is intentionally projecting an image, and presumably it's an image that gets her the sort of attention she's looking for.

It would be completely unacceptable for someone to put his hands on her without her permission, regardless of the image she chose to project. But looks, some comments, men trying to stay near her, men talking to each other about her . . . those are all normal and reasonable reactions to the image she's projecting.

I am disgusted by the "blaming the victim" mentality that I see sometimes. But since this woman doesn't view herself as a victim, and since other posters on this thread have said that they would not be offended by whistles and catcalls, I don't think this is a situation of blaming the victim. There isn't a victim. This reporter has a particular image and it sounds to me as though everything that has happened fits perfectly with the image she is cultivating.
