We're presently at Hilton Head for our regular October vacation. For the last two years the management here has been promising me that "next time you stay", there will be wi-fi access in the rooms.

This time when I checked in on Sunday, I was told "they are rolling it out as we speak".

So far - the service is typical Hargray (the island ISP) service, which is very very poor. The security certificate expired on 9/08/08, so every time I try to sign on I get notified of that problem. The service keeps dropping and requires that we sign on again about every five minutes. The DVC Front Desk says they don't think having an expired security certificate is a problem and that Hargray is fixing the other issues, but for five days the service has been the same - very bad.

I hope that this is not the level of service that DVC plans to provide long term at Hilton Head, as it is a few orders of magnitude worse than the Wi-fi a Disney World DVC sites.

I had problems with outgoing mail on my May trip. Never have had that happen anywhere else I have traveled. I am hoping to be at HHI next May as well so I'm crossing my fingers that the issues are resolved by then. Sorry that you are dealing with the troubles now. Good internet service should be a basic service in this day and age.

Makes me crazy. VB & HHI have been creeping along getting this done. I could've personally installed resort wide wifi in about two weeks. And hop on down street to the motel 6 and you'll find a strong signal I'm sure. I also don't understand why they're contracting this out... it's not rocket science. Sure hope they get this ironed out soon.

we just left HHI this morning and had no problems whatsoever with our wi-fi connection! yes we had to agree with the terms of use each time we went to use it but we never got kicked off line nor had any problems with email. wonder if it was our room location? right next to the pool area :confused3

It's only because you had a villa right next to the pool that you were able to get wi-fi in your room. You were lucky! :thumbsup2

The hot spots at the resort are the pool area (and community hall), Big Murggie's Den, and the beach house.

I had the same awful wi fi connection the last time I stayed at a Fairfield Inn. Kept wanting me to sign in every few minutes.
