Report: Apple working on Verizon iPhone??

For those interested:

NEW YORK—The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Apple may be working on an iPhone designed for Verizon Wireless.

Currently AT&T Inc. is the only U.S. phone company that carries the iPhone.

Citing unnamed sources, The Journal said Monday that Apple Inc. is planning to debut a new iPhone this summer, and on top of that appears to be working on a model for Verizon. The report says it is unclear when the Verizon model would be available.

Apple spokeswoman Natalie Kerris says the company does not comment on rumors or speculation. Verizon Wireless also has no comment.

I was told by the employees at my local AT&T that they did not know that they were getting the iPhone and the upgrades of the iPhone until 2 weeks or less before their release. The employee said that the iPhone going to Verizon is nothing but a rumor. I don't know if this was just a way to sell me the iPhone and switch to AT&T(which I did), but it worked and I LOVE my iPhone.

They have had this rumor going around for the past couple of years if I am remembering correctly. I'll believe it when I see it. And if it does come true, it won't affect me at all. I've had AT&T since they were Cingular and have no issues with their service.

Finger and toes crossed this is true. I work for Verizon, so I really should stay with the company when it comes to my cell service. BUT I REALLY WANT AN IPHONE.

Yes the rumors have been around for a while. However this one is now on the front page of MSNBC so it may have some legs. Regardless, I'll stick with my AT&T/iPhone plan.

I'm holding out for an announcement by the end of June. If htey announce, I'll be right in line to buy. If htey don't, im switching to ATT and getting one

I'm torn on what I'll do. We use VZW at work. So it's very tempting to wait for the Verizon iPhone to be released so I can get it through work. It would be nice not having that monthly bill. But my current iPhone 3G is filled and I'm anxious for the new one to come out and upgrade in size (as well as speed). Not sure if I'll stick with AT&T and upgrade in June or wait for the VZW iPhone which will probably be end of this year.

This is a rumor coming from a good source around the time that the ATT exclusivity is supposed to be over...I'd say it sounds like it could be credible. Plus Apple wants those many millions of new iPhones sold...

I gave up waiting for the iPhone from VZW- I got the Droid.
I honestly LOVE the Droid, except for the fact that I can't get e-ticket!

DH is waiting for the iPhone- hopefully this summer, but he is willing to wait longer if need be.

Per Vzw peeps. Vzw is sold on its service, Apple will not let Vzw service their iPhone... so Vzw says no deal. Until they let Vzw have that service aggreement, we wont see this. BUT I do think we will see that happen in time.

I am on the fence, I want a darn iPhone, but dont want to leave Vzw and the family plan I have. Most everyone I talk to have Vzw, I dont want to pay more to be the only ATT.

I went into the store for the network I'm getting my next iphone on and they said that they only know 2 weeks ahead of time, but presume theres one coming. I personally cannot wait to get my own iphone and have all the wonders of the internet (since I don't have either of those things at the moment) so am getting a 3GS, therefore only 1 step behind
