Replacing Kouzina

The Jersey diner idea seems to be dying out. They opened a couple of locations here in Indy and both got great reviews at first but the schtick of rudeness and bad food just didn't last for some reason. :)

Why would you want a mass market chain that can be had anywhere? Ignoring Rainforest Dinosaur Cafe, the Yak and Yeti concept and some of their other concepts are very limited in footprint to make it a unique experience.

Landry must have a deal with Disney, RFC, T-Rex and Yak&Yeti.

So for the BW what about -> Chart House, Saltgrass Steak House, Bubba Gump Shrimp Co., Claim Jumper, Morton's The Steakhouse, McCormick & Schmick's, or Mastro's Restaurants. All owned by the same parent company as RFC,T-Rex, and Yak&Yeti.

I would vote for Claim Jumper - sounds great
Claim Jumper’s fame comes not only from food made from the best ingredients, but also from the American Craftsman atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. Our choices of dishes range from pasta and pizza to Certified Angus Beef®, guaranteed to have something delicious for everyone.

Kick back at our saloon to find an extensive wine list, signature cocktails, specialty non-alcoholic beverages and imported and American craft beers including Claim Jumper’s own Honey Blonde, Original Red Ale and Hefeweizen. We’re proud that each of our locations offers a cozy interior, remarkable dining and a friendly environment

I also like Morton's The Steakhouse -
What began in Chicago in 1978 is now one of the most award-winning steakhouses around. For over 30 years, Morton's Steakhouse has been on a mission to provide "The Best Steak… Anywhere." Focusing on quality, consistency and genuine hospitality, Morton's seeks to provide not only memorable cuisine, but a memorable experience as well. With fresh, succulent seafood and their famed USDA prime-aged steak, it's no surprise that Morton's has thrilled diners all over the world. For a glimpse of a higher standard of steakhouse, come see the legendary Morton's experience for yourself.

OR even,,,
Saltgrass Steak House
Texas to the Bone®! We put the sizzle in our char-grilled steaks, serving the finest Certified Angus Beef® with legendary Texas hospitality.

The barn-like interiors at Saltgrass Steak House almost beg you to two-step to the C&W music. The booths are leatherette. A big stone fireplace adds warmth in the winter. Tin ceiling accents add rustic charm. Memorabilia and murals recall the era when millions of longhorn cattle were driven south each winter to graze on the Texas Gulf Coast's salt grasses. The trail was known for the best beef in Texas. Trail riders headed to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo still bring their horses down it — and along the way, they still pass the original Saltgrass Steak House.

The menu recaptures the flavor of the open campfire. Served up with legendary Texas — and Landry's — hospitality are char-grilled steaks that sizzle alone or with a choice of toppings. Favorites include a classic Chicken Fried Steak and BBQ Baby Back Ribs. Hickory Chicken satisfies those in a fowl mood, and shrimp is lassoed fried, grilled, stuffed BBQ enbrochette or coconut-battered. Saltgrass Combos stir up an appetite by offering a fun mix of entrées. And the Lone Starters sampler — which includes signature Range Rattlers (jumbo fried jalapenos stuffed with whole shrimp and Jack cheese) — feeds a crowd.

I would love to just see them change the menu at Yachtsman to go all in USDA Prime. The quality of steak vs the charge is ridiculous. I don't have issues paying top dollar for an awesome steak but I'm not paying Gibson's prices for
Outback quality.

Depends on what we'll get instead. I'd take a chain restaurant over an overpriced character buffet serving food marginally better then Golden Corral.

I don't think the Boardwalk area needs another steak house. A steakhouse like Morton's, which serves USDA prime beef, would be change from current offerings.

pooh2001--Your post doesn't include any quotes. The verbiage sounds like a "cut and paste" from Landry's website but your post reads like a review. Have you even dined at any of the three restaurants you listed?

I honestly think that area needs a good quick service restaurant. I'd like to see them turn it into a quality QS.

I loved Kouzzina and found the foot very refreshing...we never felt like cows leaving. I would like something unusual maybe the diner concept as pp stated but upscale. No more steakhouse needed there is one over the boardwalk.

I think a Brazilian or south american style cuisine food would git the spot great, and add some flavor to the otherwise bland and american cuisine around the boardwalk. However, epcot is right next door, so that is a tough bill to fill. Whatever they decide to put there, I am very curious!

I've tried several varieties, but always find foot to be a tough. I have a friend that likes chewing of chicken foot though.

:rotfl2:

I have to admit that I don't know what should go where Kouzinna is located. Burgers and fries is too similar to ESPN, Big River Grill, and Beaches N' Cream. The other thing that fits in is high scale fish...which you have at Flying Fish...Now this is a little crazy...but you could have upscale Fish at Flying Fish and go with all deep fried seafood at the new place. Go with fried fish, butterflied shrimp, popcorn shrimp, chicken, hush puppies, French fries, pickles, green tomatoes, onion blossoms...also have crab cakes, oysters on the half shell, etc. Have deep fried cheesecake and candy bars for dessert. It would still be kind of boardwalk food (though much more gulf coast) and would be different from the upscale flying fish.

I am very sad to Kouzzina go. Luckily I scored ressie on closing night. I just hope that it doesn't have a limited menu do to closing. I hope Disney and Cat will want to go out with a bang.:flower3:

I wasn't aware that there was an actual chain that was jersey diner. I was literally referring to diners in NJ...I like NJ diners. :lol Especially for breakfast, plus they know how to seat you, feed you cheaply and get you out quickly. That's what I'm looking for in the morning.

I honestly don't think people want greek food. I can't think of a popular greek restaurant (trattorias?) people flock to.

?

I think greek would have been just fine, but it was too much of a hybrid. TOO MUCH CINNAMON. You can't have cinnamon stewed chicken AND lasagna made with cinnamon stewed beef. One or the other. Our kids got the "lasagna" and they took one bite and sent it back. I got the sampler and could barely eat it myself.

I just think the menu was a big miss. Cat had to force her choices into the "Disney plan" (one fish, one chicken, one meat, one pasta, one vegetarian, one signature) and it just didn't work well.

It's not a good state of affairs when my most memorable thing about a restaurant experience is the appetizer dips.

Regarding retheming, no way will Disney put a QS in there (even though it is so badly needed!) Personally, I think a pizza/italian place would do very well. Italy has 2 restaurants that for the most part sell out regularly. Melrose also does well. The pizza window is ridiculously horrible - worst pizza I have ever had in my life. If they brought in some way to wood fire the pies, maybe have some innovative pasta dishes and the "Disney Plan," it could go well.

I can agree with your comments --except for the pizza . THE AWARD FOR WORST DISNEY PIZZA belongs to The Pizza Planet at HS. Or as we like to refer to it, "The Pukie Pizza Plant ---PPP"!

Sources tell me that Kouzzina will be replaced by an Italian restaurant.

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

OK, I stand corrected! We long ago swore of PPP because of just how bad it was!

But seriously, I was shocked to see pizza THAT bad coming out of a window just under Cat Cora's name. It was really a travesty.

That is good. That actually makes very good sense. If they could make it a cross between Via Napoli and Mama Melrose's with even a couple of greek dishes thrown in, I could see it doing very well.

We have a greek pizza place in Atlanta called Athens Pizza. It is great - it offers all of the classic Italian dishes, plus the classic greek dishes (gyros, etc.) and wonderful pizza, including a house pie with sliced lamb, onions and feta that really is to die for. They could totally do italian/greek with a twist and hit it out of the park.

So spoodles (seafood/Mediterranean)
Kouzzina (Greek/Mediterranean)
Italian (Italian/Mediterranean)

...I guess I shouldn't have bet $5000 on "Sammy's southern BBQ" on a prop bet at the Luxor in Vegas last weekend?

Damn ;)
