Replacing Kouzina

That is probably unlikely though...I remind that they JUST redid the boardwalk bakery to offer more options last summer. It's not as comprehensive as a foodcourt, but they spent capital funds to redesign it and now it is similar to Its counterpart over at beach club.

For some reason, the quickserve concept was almost entirely rejected for yacht, beach, and boardwalk...hurricane Hannah's recent renovation being the closest to a Disney quickserve.

I've kinda always liked that...they don't have the same feel as port Orleans and that's nice. But they did have a collection of slightly different stuff - Beaches and cream, espn, big river, etc - that gave a different feel. Remember also boardwalk was a hybrid design to also have it's own destination/entertainment...it's sad that Eisner/Iger/suits/stockwatch have effectively strangled/eliminated that kind of creativity for accounting purposes.

The more likely alternative at spoodles/kouzzina is a more familiar sitdown - like boatwrights or Olivia's or the wave - to process people. Even if its in the interim.

Spoodles worked for 15 years...to be honest I didnt quite get the replacement. Kouzzina just wasn't a destination spot to warrant slamming it in there. They missed a little.

Also, as had been suggested, there could be a third party lease to an outside vendor... Which honestly is preferable as Disney's heart isn't in these things anymore...mostly due to hand wringing over employees and overhead getting in the way of searching the couch cushions for loose change of profits.

Oh my gosh...I always love lockedoutlogic's posts!

I honestly don't think people want greek food. I can't think of a popular greek restaurant (trattorias?) people flock to.

?

I'll predict a Mercado style booth creation with food truck offerings minus the trucks.

My math:

Food & Wine success + new food truck success @ DTD + added food booths for F&G = let's make it permanent.

Whatever they come up with, it has to offer a sit-down breakfast, since there's no other eatery at the BW offering a good morning meal.

I wonder if the Patina group, which is making inroads over at Epcot, has something planned.

they're going to kill that golden goose too if it keeps up.

food trucks are big right now...but they have also been around for a few years...i don't see all in on that. downtown is ripped up...within months VERY ripped up...hence the trucks at downtown make sense.

Food and wine...was great. but i don't know...its getting tired. maybe because they never change the food, maybe because the presentation is lackluster (particularly the cast because its SOOO long and uncomfortable for them), maybe when they shoe horned it into flower and garden and will undoubtedly keep doing it wherever they think it can make a buck...

just think that even food and wine will wane sooner than later. been 20 years...and its largely supported by florida residents...who eventually will get tired of that sojourn as well.

just my hunch

I agree, sir....

since the kids showed up randomly on two separate mornings...we have taken a real liking to Boardwalk with DVC points...

BUT...i hate the lack of breakfast.

haven't been to BW since the bakery was redesigned (though we went through in november)...so theres a little improvement. but breakfast still needs help in my opinion.

the grease stand serving outside carny food ALMOST makes up for the lack of breakfast...but not quite.

Landry must have a deal with Disney, RFC, T-Rex and Yak&Yeti.

So for the BW what about -> Chart House, Saltgrass Steak House, Bubba Gump Shrimp Co., Claim Jumper, Morton's The Steakhouse, McCormick & Schmick's, or Mastro's Restaurants. All owned by the same parent company as RFC,T-Rex, and Yak&Yeti.

I would vote for Claim Jumper - sounds great
Claim Jumper’s fame comes not only from food made from the best ingredients, but also from the American Craftsman atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. Our choices of dishes range from pasta and pizza to Certified Angus Beef®, guaranteed to have something delicious for everyone.

Kick back at our saloon to find an extensive wine list, signature cocktails, specialty non-alcoholic beverages and imported and American craft beers including Claim Jumper’s own Honey Blonde, Original Red Ale and Hefeweizen. We’re proud that each of our locations offers a cozy interior, remarkable dining and a friendly environment

I also like Morton's The Steakhouse -
What began in Chicago in 1978 is now one of the most award-winning steakhouses around. For over 30 years, Morton's Steakhouse has been on a mission to provide "The Best Steak… Anywhere." Focusing on quality, consistency and genuine hospitality, Morton's seeks to provide not only memorable cuisine, but a memorable experience as well. With fresh, succulent seafood and their famed USDA prime-aged steak, it's no surprise that Morton's has thrilled diners all over the world. For a glimpse of a higher standard of steakhouse, come see the legendary Morton's experience for yourself.

OR even,,,
Saltgrass Steak House
Texas to the Bone®! We put the sizzle in our char-grilled steaks, serving the finest Certified Angus Beef® with legendary Texas hospitality.

The barn-like interiors at Saltgrass Steak House almost beg you to two-step to the C&W music. The booths are leatherette. A big stone fireplace adds warmth in the winter. Tin ceiling accents add rustic charm. Memorabilia and murals recall the era when millions of longhorn cattle were driven south each winter to graze on the Texas Gulf Coast's salt grasses. The trail was known for the best beef in Texas. Trail riders headed to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo still bring their horses down it — and along the way, they still pass the original Saltgrass Steak House.

The menu recaptures the flavor of the open campfire. Served up with legendary Texas — and Landry's — hospitality are char-grilled steaks that sizzle alone or with a choice of toppings. Favorites include a classic Chicken Fried Steak and BBQ Baby Back Ribs. Hickory Chicken satisfies those in a fowl mood, and shrimp is lassoed fried, grilled, stuffed BBQ enbrochette or coconut-battered. Saltgrass Combos stir up an appetite by offering a fun mix of entrées. And the Lone Starters sampler — which includes signature Range Rattlers (jumbo fried jalapenos stuffed with whole shrimp and Jack cheese) — feeds a crowd.

I would vote for no new chain restaurant at Disney's BoardWalk.

Claim Jumper has around 40 locations. The last thing I want at Disney's BoardWalk is a restaurant that is also 5 miles from my house -- and in metropolitan areas all over the United States.

It's bad enough that Big River Grille is at Disney's BoardWalk. It's part of the Old Chicago Pizza company. See http://www.oldchicago.com/general/our-brands

If Disney turns to an outside company such as Landry's or Patina Group, then at least the restaurant should be one-of-a-kind. Patina Group has several good restaurants at Downtown Disney in California, each with a concept, name, and menu not duplicated elsewhere.

Husband had an expense account. We live outside of Chicago. A couple times a year he entertains a bunch of Chinese co-workers. Claim Jumper used to be a BIG hit. Then about 1 year ago the menu changed. We thought it was gross and so did they. Claim Jumper is now off the list of places we take people.

I will say, it made for some memorable meals back when the food was good. Imagine an 85 pound Chinese woman who had 2-3 cocktails before dinner ordering a loaded sweet potato as an entree. Well much to this woman's surprise the potato they brought out was as big as her head. It was comical watching her attempt to eat it. She said it tasted great, but she just couldn't finish it. We know her well and all had a great laugh.

I wish I had taken a picture of it!

I would vote for no new chain restaurant at Disney's BoardWalk.

Depends on what we'll get instead. I'd take a chain restaurant over an overpriced character buffet serving food marginally better then Golden Corral.

I don't think the Boardwalk area needs another steak house. A steakhouse like Morton's, which serves USDA prime beef, would be change from current offerings.

pooh2001--Your post doesn't include any quotes. The verbiage sounds like a "cut and paste" from Landry's website but your post reads like a review. Have you even dined at any of the three restaurants you listed?

I enjoyed Cat Cora's but did not eat there often because the food was so heavy.

I think its a tough location, at Boardwalk when many guests staying at BW can walk to EPCOT/MGM for many dinner choices. QS would be nice when we stay at BWV but pretty large space for QS. Also already have "casual dining" at ESPN and Big River (my thoughts on those places is for another thread)

Should be interesting to see what they bring in there, it would be nice if it fit the Boardwalk theme.

You can thank Tilman Fertitta and his Landry's group. IMO all the of Landry's group restaurants food declined after being acquired by Tilman Fertitta. Since the Flying Fish is next door that eliminates all the Landry's seafood concepts.

We enjoyed the Chart House in Savannah. That seems like a better fit for the Yacht Club.

Pooh2001: you mentioned Bubba Gumps, there is one at Universal CityWalk. I also agree with Lewisc, I don't see another steakhouse. With Yachtmans and Le Cellier in walking distance it doesn't make much sense.

Personally I'd love to see a pancake house or diner style restaurant. Something where real boardwalk food like fresh squeezed lemonade and boardwalk fries would fit in and you can get breakfast all day like at 10 at night after leaving Epcot, talk about fixing the breakfast issue! Maybe it's nostalgia, as a Jersey Girl in Florida I miss the boardwalk food and it's a part of some of my favorite memories growing up. I know it'd be another casual place but that's what a boardwalk is, plus there's so many upscale restaurants just a short walk away.

Kouzzina by Cat Cora at Disney's BoardWalk Resort will have its 5th anniversary August/September 2014. It appears that a Disney had a 5-year licensing deal with Chef Cat Cora. I assume that WDW executives have determined that it does not make business sense to renew with Chef Cora.

No replacement has been announced.

maybe cat cora didn't want to contimue with disney That happens as well.

And Shula's steakhouse as well. They need a good Jersey diner for breakfast.

Hmmmm...wondering what the "new concept" restaurant will be that replaces Kouzzina...any rumors yet? A one-credit family-friendly breakfast-lunch-dinner place would be nice. Hoping whatever it is will be open by December, when we will be at BW. :santa:

Heck, I'd take Spoodles back.

I was a fan of "The Italian" at breakfast.

Did anyone mention a New Orleans cajun or creole type place? They haven't had a similar restaurant there since the sit-down at Port Orleans closed some years ago. I know they have one in downtown Disneyland, but not there, I think
