We are looking into replacing our house heater which is over 40yrs old and our central air unit which is close to the same age. I know that no matter whether I pick the 80% efficiency or the 95% I am going to save big on my utility bill. Just wondering if anyone has gone for the high efficiency heater and if it was worth the extra money. I am in the process of getting estimates and don't even know what questions to ask. I would appreciate any help or suggestions.

We replaced ours about two or three years ago and while our house is cooler, and it runs much better, we have NOT saved big. We were told an average savings of 100.00 or more a month, but we really have not noticed but it could be because of everything going up. We put in a Trane unit. Good luck

Thanks for the info. I'm surprised you haven't seen any big savings, but as you said everything has gone up in price.

Our savings is good, but we put in thermal windows at the same time, so it's hard to tell how much of it came from where.

However, I do have one tip: spring for a new composite pad for the a/c. It makes a HUGE difference in the noise level, having it sit on a sound-absorbing surface.
