Replacement for Costco Amex

I got the info too. I will probably just cancel it and use my chase freedom for the 5% quarterly categories when applicable, otherwise my SW Visa. I only ever used the amex at costco. I prefer to rack up points rather than get cash back.

I just registered for the Chase Freedom 5% quarterly bonus on groceries and noticed that Warehouse clubs were listed which I had never seen before. Specifically BJs which I have, might want to check and see if Costco is included, very nice perk to get 5% back at wholesale clubs

When I got the notification I canceled my Jet Blue Amex. The new Barclays version comes with a 30,000 point bonus for new card holders which I plan to become very soon.

That's my plan too. Signed up for the JetBlue Amex last summer to get a 25K mile bonus, cancelled it early in March before the transfer. Barclay still issued me a new card which I haven't activated. Hoping that doesn't disqualify me from the 30k bonus.

I noticed that too. I was assuming they didn't list Costco because of their affiliation with Amex. Since you can pay online at Costco .com with any credit card I'm going to test this out in early June with an online purchase of a Costco cash card with my Chase Freedom to see if I get the 5% bonus.

My understanding is Costco will honor all Visa cards. This was the case when they had AMEX. I have several of them and have used them both. COSTCO would honor all AMEX cards only.

wow, being able to use any Visa at Costco will be fabulous. Will the Costco Visa give the extended warranty benefits like the old AmEx one did?

From FlyerTalk
I bought Costco cash card using Citi Hilton Visa, it is coded as the following:

Description: COSTCO.COM *ONLINE 800-955-2292 WA
Category: MISC GENERAL MERCHANDISE NOT CLASSIFIED

doesnt seem to code as warehouse... :\ wonder if Sams Club online is like that too.

I wonder if Chase is coding it any differently. I posted earlier that I was going to test it out in June, but I meant April. My statement closing date is April 10, so I may make a small online purchase before then to see if it qualifies for the bonus category.

Usually the coding comes from Visa, not chase... but i guess its possible...

so, it looks like Chase updated their website and now list costco.com and costco as a 5x earning category. Good for us!! w00t

But when will Costco stores start accepting Visa? I though it wasn't until mid-June. Doesn't do much for me, as I don't order from Costco.com and the 5% ends June 30. I guess I will look into cash cards online if people report getting the bonus.

That is excellent news! I placed a small order for merchandise yesterday to test it out. I'll place another one for a cash card now to see if it qualifies.

And if you want a no fee Amex, check out the Amex Blue Cash Everyday.

3% at grocery stores up to $6000
2% at gas stations
2% at department stores

There is a signup bonus for $150 after spending $500 in 3 months, plus 10% back on wireless phone bill.

I opened one a few months ago and they were offering $200 at that point-it think the offer varies month to month.

I also spoke to am ex a few weeks ago when the notice from Costco came out-I told them I have no desire for the new Citibank card so they said costumers can just call and kill out their Costco affiliated amex cards and avoid getting the new card altogether (and if you do it right-amex will take whatever amex cash back rewards are sitting on the account -those that have accumulated since the annual pay out in February-and either apply them to the existing balance or transfer them to another amex account).

I can confirm that both my merchandise purchase and Costco cash card purchase posted to my Chase Freedom card as qualifying for the 5X bonus for warehouse clubs for this quarter. I go to Costco weekly so I plan to load up cash card(s) to the $1,500 max limit.

Thanks for the update! I think I will buy a cash card also.

I have this card. If you sign up always check those offers every month. I have the 10% (up to $30) back (statement credit)on the wireless deal and the same for my cable bill. I also have gotten offers for $20 off $60 at Amazon, $15 off $35 at Walmart. I usually don't get any e-mail, I log in and check.

I just checked and didn't see any wireless or cable offer for my AMEX BCP, darn. It seems like some offers are targeted.

Also, these AMEX offers are good on any authorized user cards too. I always make sure I load the offers on both my card and DH's card. On our recent spring break trip we spent $500 at a hotel and because each of us had a $50 AMEX offer off a $250+ charge at any hotel, we ended up getting $100 (2 x $50) credited to our statement. I made a trip to the front desk midway through our stay to put $250 on my card, and then the balance when on his card.
