Replace Magnum P.I.??

OK, a group of us at home were talking about the recent trend towards making movies based on popular 70's and 80's TV shows (Dukes of Hazzard, Starsky & Hutch). We were talking about IF they decided to make a Magnum P.I. movie---and the great question is:

WHO would be the best actor to play Magnum???

Rules: it can't be Tom Selleck--although we still agree he is still awesome, but it has to be an actor that is younger--about the age he was during the Series.

I was a faithful Magnum watcher and still love Tom Selleck, but if I had to find a replacement........

Did you know that Tom Selleck has trying to get a Magnum movie going for years. He and Tom Clancy (spelling) came up with a script, but "the powers that be" were not interested. He's tlaked about it a few times over the yrs.
Oh and and interesting tidbit... if the series had not been picked up, he would have been Indianna Jones. He auditioned and got the part, but the producers of MPI wouldn't delay filming, and he was locked in with a contract for MPI.

As for the OP.... oh man, that would be hard, I could see Ben Browden playing Magnum

Sam Jackson as Higgins (thinking outside the box here)

Benicio del Toro and John C Reilly as Magnum's buddies

Throw in Kate Hudson as a love interest and William H Macy as a villain.

Sound like a good movie?

Somebody with power could tell him he got the part and they were filming this time on a deserted island they would make look like Hawaii. Ship ole crazy Tom out there early and then forget to mention to him the project got cancelled!
