I have sand finished walls in my living room. The paint I bought was the paint color and the sand mixed together. I would now like to repaint my living room a different color. I don't care either way if the sand texture shows through. I don't want to have to sand the wall though.

Anyone have experience with this. Can I paint over the sand texture, or am I stuck with this color forever?

You can paint right over the sand finish. I just did this in my dining room the ceiling was sand painted. I wanted to change the color but didn't want the mess of the sand paint figured I try see what happens. Came out fine.

I read this as "reprimanding a sand fish". I was like, what in the heck. lol

Sue - does the texture show through, or does the paint cover the whole finish? Just curious

We have all textured walls in my house, and you can paint right over it. You just use a roller made for textured walls. It'll have a bit thicker nap to it. And to answer your other question, the texture will show through the paint.

Yes the pp is right the texture will show.

I would use a roller that is specific to textured walls. You will get a better result that way.

I know that you don't care if you see the texture or not, but unless you sand the walls you need to paint the walls correctly or it won't look right.
