I am thinking of taking my 74 yo MIL with us on our next trip. She does pretty well, no dementia or anything, but she can't walk long distances. Are there chairs for rent for length of stay at WDW? I think this would be a great trip for her, and time for her to spend with my DD, plus allow me some time to go do what I want sometimes on the trip. I was thinking of staying at the Swan or Dolphin so there would be lots for her to do if she doesn't want to go to the parks for the day. Any suggestions?

The resorts have a limited number of wheelchairs available for guests to use onsite, on a first-come, first-served basis. Many people choose to be sure and rent offsite, though. Have you considered renting an ECV instead of a wheelchair?

Here are the companies that rent offsite that we have heard the most about :

Walker Mobility:

Be sure to click on the link in my signature and look at the section on the Guest Assistance Pass, and also on Pacing, and traveling with elderly.

LucyStorm - We are staying at the Dolphin beginning next week, and I requested use of a wheelchair from the Dolphin. I will let you know how this request goes when we return. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we don't have to rent from another vendor or depend on availability at the parks. My request was noted in our reservation. LisaF

We hear more about the Disney owned resorts than we do about the Swan and Dolfin. I know that people had posted the Disney resorts had not been allowing anyone to pre-reserve a wheelchair, even if they went thru the Special Reservations Department. It's possible that the Swan and Dolfin do.
