When you rent points, do you get the advantage of booking 11-months out at a non-home resort? Can you rent (in order to book 11-months out) and then supplement (for additional nights at that resort) with your own points?

You can rent points that give you the 11-month home resort booking window at a higher cost than you would for points with the 7-month window.

If I understand your question, you want to stay at a non home resort & are thinking about renting points for that resort in order to gain the 11 month booking advantage at that resort. You can do that.
I'm a bit confused about the second part of your question, if your points are for the same resort then yes you can also use your own points to book there at 11 months. The easiest way to combine the two is to find an owner willing to transfer the points to you for the rental. If your own points are for a different resort then you can not use them at another resort during the 11-8 month priority booking window, there is no way to use non home resort points to complete a reservation at a non home resort during that time. At 7 months all points are equal.

It sounds like you are talking about a point transfer rather than a rental. If you arrange for, say, a BWV owner to transfer BWV points into your account, you can use them to book BWV 11 months out. If you want to add additional nights to that reservation, you either need more BWV points to book those extra nights at 11 months out or you must wait until 7 months out from those additional nights to use non-BWV points, subject to availability at that time.

Renting points is when you arrange with a DVC owner to have that owner book a room for you with his/her own points and then you pay them for that reservation. The other owner owns and controls the reservation. You cannot add nights to it using your own points. You can however book the extra nights you need as a separate reservation using your own points at either 11 months out (if you are using home resort points) or at 7 months out (if using non-home points). You can then ask Member Services to link the two individual reservations so that the room assigner will put you in the same room for both reservations so you don't have to change rooms.

Thank you! I am a newbie, and this clarified things for me.

Thank you! That is a really helpful explanation.
