Has anyone rented a reservation to another DVC member? What are my risks if I transfer the reservation prior to payment? Also, what about sing Paypal to accept payment, what are the risks?

Thanks for any advice you can give someone new to this process.

Why would renting to another DVC Member be less risky than a non DVC Member?

Your risk is that you won't get paid and/or they trash the villa and you get billed for it.

Little risk with PayPal.

In the past...I'm the other DVC member that did not have enough pts. for the night that I needed and decide to see if I can rent some pts. In fact, the DVC member that rented out the pts. to me, was very happy that I was a DVC member. He felt that since, I was a DVC member myself...I was going to take special care of the place that I was staying at, his home resort. Not that all non-DVC or renters don't care about the place and trash the rooms, but as a DVC member we love and cherish our "Home"

If you have a reservation that another member wants, you will have to "rent" them the reservation. You just change the name on the reservation from yours to theirs. If you are transferring points, then the points no longer are yours and become the other members' once the transfer is complete.

You cannot transfer a reservation to another member. All you can do is change the name and it's still your reservation until they check in. But you are still responsible for them as your renter.

I recently worked with another great DVCer. She wanted a dedicated 2 BR reservation at VWL (where I also have points) at the 11 month window, so I made the reservation in her name, using my points and in return she transferred her BCV points in my BCV account.

This worked out great because we both had the same use year at BCV and it gave me a chance to get more BCV points for a couple of years's use there. I like to stay there in summers when I have the grandchildren with me and this will enable us to have a longer stay there. I asked her to wait until the 2009 use year could be transferred, so that those points would be good for 2009 and 2010 (since they could be banked).

She actually lacked 38 points having enough for a even swap, so agreed to pay $10 a point for the 38 points she needed.

I called day by day (the procedure at that time) to get her dedicated room assured, and then waited almost 6 months so that she could transfer the 2009 points. It worked out great for both of us....she takes her trip this month and I am using some of those extra BCV points for an extended stay this summer!

Hi! That's ME!!
We are very excited about our upcoming trip! Thanks for working with me VLee! Hope you have a great time at BCV!
I think the benifit of working with another DVC memeber (renting points, reservations, transfering points, ect..) is that you each (hopefully) know how the process works and what the rules are. Even with our deal above - that was somewhat complicated - went smooth because we each knew the procedures and what/when to expect.

Well, hi Tammy!!!

Just wanted to tell everyone what a great deal we made in our exchange of points. I have two weeks booked at BCV this summer with the grandkids.
Yes, your trip is almost here and I hope you have a wonderful vacation at VWL. Mom and I will be at BCV December 7 - 13.

Let me hear from you after your trip!!
