I am traveling to WDW with my mom, husband, and kids. Mom has limited mobility and we are trying to decide the best option for scooter rental. If we rent a scooter from one park and then leave and visit another park later in the day, is the second park likely to have one available? Would we better off renting from outside co.? Which is the best? Or even, possibly trying to find a used scooter to buy. We will be there early Oct. Thanks

Welcome to disABILITIES.
All of the frequent DIS posters who use ecvs must be busy today, so I'll give you some information that will be helpful. My DD has her own wheelchair, so we've never rented an ecv, but I can give you some general information.
The time period that you are going is not likely to be busy, but there is no guarantee that an ecv will be available at the park you are hopping to. If worse comes to worse, there should not be any problem getting a wheelchair at the second park; they are not as limited in quantity as ecvs are.
Here are the outside places that DIS posters report renting from:
Care Medical:

Walker Mobility:

RANDY'S Mobility is in Kissimmee 407-892-4777

Colonial Medical

Besides not having to worry about getting one at the parks, anothere advantage is having an ecv for getting around your resort and for places like DD that don't rent ecvs. If you are staying at a WDW resort, almost all the buses and boats and all the monorails are accessible.

I will post re how I do when I get back. Hopefully I will be an inspiration & won't be making everyone laugh with the tales of how I drove into stuff. :D

I will be a first-time scooter user, after many trips with my dh pushing a wheelchair (I'm touring solo while my dh is at a conference). I'm renting from Walker. They've been very nice so far, and people here have had good experiences with them. I've gotten some really great information from everyone here and I am sure if you have any specific questions, someone will know the answer!

Your best bet is to rent from offsite. You are then guaranteed to have an ECV when you need it. They do run out and you really can't park hop if you rent from Disney as they willnot guarantee an ECV at the next park.
