I have read lots and am still confused, I am not too good at reading and comprehending if I have to read alot to answer the couple questions I have. LOL
So here goes...
If I rent points can I use them anywhere? Say I wanted to stay @ Pop Century. Also would I be able to get the dining plan? Is this the cheaper way to go? How much would it cost me to stay @ Pop for six nights?

You aren't actually renting points, you are renting a reservation made for you by a DVC member. Points have no value to a non-DVC member, as only the member can make the reservations or changes to reservations.

Points can not be used at Disney value resorts (POP Century and All-Stars) Nor can they be used at resorts with an "attached" DVC villa resort, for instance, they can not be used at Wilderness Lodge, but they can be used at the Villas at Wilderness Lodge.

The best use of points is at a DVC Resort for a villa. The price of your rental would be fully negotiable between you and the DVC Owner. It is a private transaction, and usually has no refund or cancellation rights like a cash reservation through Disney. Renting is a matter of trust, the owner trusts you to pay for the rental per your agreement. You trust the owner to make the reservation and not cancel it, even though the owner always remains in control of the reservation. Disney will NOT become intervene on your behalf if the deal goes sour.

The average price for a rental of points is $10 to $12 per point required, sometimes more, rarely less.
Again, it is a private transaction and negotiable between you and the DVC owner.

There is no way for you, as a non-owner, to contact DVC Member Services to verify your reservation, the owner should provide you with a copy of the reservation confirmation s/he receives. If you wish to add the dining plan or Magical Express, the owner must contact DVC to do that for you. You will pay for the Dining Plan when you check into the resort.

If I can jump in on this Q&A I've been reading up on this and I'm trying to figure out if it's within our budget and would be a workable option for us.

How do you know how many points you need for the different locations/ days of vacation. Is there some sort of chart that I'm overlooking?

Good heavens' if it had been a snake!! Thanks!
