We're doing a 3night cruise this year (using pts.). I've read that it would be cheaper to rent out the pts and pay cash. (Too late for this cruise, but looking into for our next cruise). We'd like to take a 7 nighter in 2007. How would renting out the points save us money? And how do you go about renting out points? I know you advertise them, but once someone wants them do I have to do all the booking and what happens once they get there..aren't the members supposed to be present? Do you make the renters pay you first and what happens if they back out? Thanks.

You should rad Doc's FAQ's regarding point rental (Link). They should help you with the how.

How does it save money? Lets say the cruise costs you 200 points. What is the cash price? If you could get $10.00 per point by renting them out, you would get back $2,000.00 for those 200 points. Is that more or less than the cash price? If it is more, you could pocket the difference and pay cash.

A member doesn't have to be present at check in but the person checking in needs to have his/her name on the reservation. The member does have to make the reservation. But you can make it for whomever you want.

When I rent I ask for 50% up front and the rest at 90 days. Yes people can back out but that's why you should use a written agreement to make clear what the conditions will be.

Thanks for the info! I'll look into the link you attached. I didn't even know you could rent out points until I saw it on this site. It would be a great option if we needed some extra points ourselves or if we didn't go one year and rented pts out for cash. Thanks once again!
