Hi everyone! I am planning to go back to WDW in May "06. I am thinking about renting points this time. My question is, when you pay with points, how do they figure in the tax for your stay? I read that at certain resorts such as The Beach Club, it is the normal tax plus an additional tax (@ 11.5%) on top of that. Is this true? Do you pay tax on the normal rack rate of the room? Any help with this would be great! Thanks!

You pay zero tax, and no additional fees. The price you pay for renting points includes all of the basic charges associated for the room.

You will have to pay for valet parking, and also for housekeeping if you want more than the "Trash & Towel" service every four days.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. That is great news! It seems like a terrific deal!

Yes, it is a terrific deal...especially if you can manage a Sun.-Thur. stay and don't have to use points for the weekend.

Has anyone actually done this? The wife's one drawback of renting points is that the room isn't "made up" when we return for the day. Is this very costly and is it worth it ?

:rolleyes1

Full housekeeping is $25 per day for a studio - more for larger units. But even with full housekeeping, you're still probably looking at a major vacation bargain.

The amount of the savings would depend, as others have alluded to, on the days of the week you will be staying. Cash reservations are the same price each day, regardless of day of week; DVC points roughly double on Friday and Saturday night, so the advantage narrows. An option is to pay cash Fri/Sat, rent points for Sun-Thurs, and link the reservations.

We actually like the fact that no one is in the room while we are away and nobody is trying to get in if we want to hang out for a while in the room.

I'd say a large percentage of DVC owners feel the same way.

Iagree, I hate having daily maid service! We are not early risers, so I do not appreciate having a maid banging on my door at 8 AM every morning! It's not hard to make a bed, and throw the dishes in the dishwasher. And I don't have to straighten up before the maid comes every morning, and make myself scarce while she cleans.

I agree. I like to bring my own blankets from home and I don't want to worry about housekeeping accidently taking them away!

Just agreeing about housekeeping. We love that housekeeping doesn't come in every day. Making the bed is no big deal, and if you must have fresh towels every day, you can pay $6 a day for a fresh towel pack to be delivered. It's no big deal to pull the covers up on the bed or even leave it a mess if that is what you do at home. We make the bed as soon as we get out of it at home, and we do that on vacation too....not a big deal. The trash is never full by the time they come for trash and towel service on day 4 anyway, and if it was, we could take it down to the recepticle ourselves on our way to the bus. There are always extra plastic bags in the bottom of the waste baskets.
