Renting points

I'm new to this whole DVC thing so I need some help. :)

We're planning a trip NEXT December...it'll be DS's first trip, my mom's first trip in over 15 years, and a celebration for DH's graduation. We'd like to stay at a DVC resort in a one bedroom so that DH and I could still have some privacy.

We're looking at December 17-24, 2005...which is 214 points. Would this be something hard to do? When do I need to start? I know home resorts start 11 months out and the others are 6 months, right?

I read the renting FAQ, but still not completely sure if this is something we should look into doing. Thanks!

December is a very popular / busy time for the WDW DVC resorts. To be sure of getting your first choice of dates, resort and unit size, it's a good idea to book 11 months ahead of time. If you are looking to rent points, it's not too early to start looking for an owner.

You'll be looking for someone willing to rent who owns at the resort you prefer. The 11 month booking window for December, 2005 opens in January. My advice is to start looking now - that way you have plenty of time to find an owner and negotiate terms before the booking window opens. It can be tough to get people's attention once the Holiday season gets into full swing. Post your request over on the Rent/Trade Forum.

Best wishes -

P.S. Are you sure you only want a 1 bedroom? It will have a king bed in the bedroom and a pull out sleep sofa (queen size) in the living room and only one bathroom. DVC resorts do not provide rollaways, or cots. So unless your DS is an infant/toddler who can sleep in a portable crib, you may want to seriously consider a 2 bedroom (or perhaps bringing an air mattress & your own bedding).

THanks for the advice! And I thought I was being early! ;)

DS will only be 2 1/2 at the time of the trip. We do have an air mattress that we could bring if needed. Thanks!

2 1/2 sounds like port-a-crib territory, and they have those in the units, so no prob there.

I concur with CarolMN that now is EXACTLY the right time to be planning. At 11 months, the world is your oyster: you can choose the resort and view and be pretty sure of getting it. I would recommend choosing which resort(s)/ view(s) you most want, then finding someone with that home resort to make you a ressie. Want VWL for MVMCP? find a VWL owner. Want cheap points but still be in the Epcot neighborhood? find a BWV owner and get Std View... Be prepared to have firm plans in place, and be ready to pay some of the cost right up front.

Good luck!
