Is there a step by step standardized process for renting my points? I.e., how to send forms, accept payments, etc? I would like to rent my points but want to make sure I’m following through properly.

Also, what kind of references, and from whom, should I get them from?

Renting is a matter of trust if you do it on your own. Having a contract is important so that both you and the potential renter are clear on terms. Another option is to use a broker who helps to match you with the renter and takes care of the contract, etc. You may get a few dollars less per point but it can be a good option.

I would rent to family, close friends and co-workers. Never to just anyone, why take the risk when you don't have to, I have 5x more requests than I have points.

At this point, I'm the opposite. I would only rent to a stranger through a broker. If I were going to "rent" to family or friends, I'd gift. I don't need the hassles of a friend or family member - or oh, God, a co-worker, not paying me or complaining about not getting into their room until 3pm, or that their room didn't have a great view or they didn't get clean towels every day.

My friends and family don't understand the value of my points. They expect the 2 bedroom, and they think they should get it for free!! Plus, money doesn't grow on trees (as my dad used to say). Strangers are much easier for me...

Check on their history. If they have been around and rented before, you should be good to go :). Its a pain in the buttocks to look through all their posts, but its worth the effort in the long run.
