Hi!

Quick question.....I have a friend who is renting points for an upcoming stay at Saratoga Springs. Will her room key still say "DVC Member" and allow her to use any of the DVC "perks" like discounts? :goodvibes Thanks for any info.
Kathy

From the info I have heard, she should still have DVC member status. I don't have any actual account to back this up, but common sense tells me that since her reservation goes through member services, it would show up on the check-in computer that she "is" a DVC member, and thus giving her membership perks. That is my best guess!

The card will say DVC member on it. However perks are for actual members and most places require that you show your actual DVC blue member card.

The friend can try but please warn him/her the resort card might not be enough and I would never push the issue since she/he is not a member.

And she definitely cannot get the AP discount without a DVC member card in her name.

I just returned from a stay on rented points. Our Key to the world card said:

*DVC MEMBER* g

Does that little g mean guest, or does every card say that?

I brought my DVC member card along in case I wanted to use any of the perks, but never ended up using it for anything.

On our last 2 trips (October and December), the CMs checking us out saw the 'DVC member' on our card and then asked us to show our blue DVC member card before giving us a discount.
They were very consistent about it on both trips, so I agree with Sammie and would not assume anyone can get a DVC member discount unless they also have the DVC member card to go along with their resort ID.

We had another very similar thread to this a week or so ago, and Chuck S made the very valid point that your friend will get a LOT of perks staying at DVC -- but most of them are onsite perks, not DVC perks. They'll get everything any onsite guest is entitled to -- and it's a lot -- but they should consider themselves very fortunate if they get any actual DVC member perks.

They certainly will not get any of the biggies, like the AP discount Deb mentioned above, without showing an actual membership card.

Probably the best "perk" they WILL be eligible for is the ability to purchase the Disney Dining Plan without having to also purchase park tickets. That's a nice one, and they are specifically permitted to enjoy that one because they are staying at a DVC resort on DVC points.

Most of the discounts are up to the venue where the guest is dining/shopping, etc, but we've always been asked for our blue card. On the bright side, your friend is probably saving enough that they don't really need to be worried about discounts.

Thanks for all the input. My friend really wasn't asking for anything, and doesn't even rally know about the discounts. She isn't interested in an AP. I was just asking out of curiosity. Thanks.

Thanks Jim! That is the only perk that I would want to use. I am fortunate to have friends who are long-time CM's and can sign me into the park. It wouldn't make sense for me to buy park tickets at nearly $800 just to buy into the DDP!

I just LOVE the DIS!! Where else can you find out everything you need to know!!
