Renting points & payment ?s

Somehow I have managed to have points left over that must be used by (date removed). I can not bank them . I thought about renting them. If I do this, should I have the buyer pay via Pay Pal? Western Union? Money Order?

You may want to check over on the Rent/Trade Board at the stickies at the top of the board. I think there is a thread about rental agreements. You probably want them to pay you in full once you make the reservation. You could accept a cashiers check or even a personal check. Once they clear you change the name on the reservation to theirs.

Western Union is kind of negative flag.

PayPal is the easiest, but you will loose some (I think it's about 3%). You could ask the buyer to pay that, but I usually do not since it is such a small portion of the overall transaction.

there have been a few negative reports of paypal allowing chargebacks for renters with no cause shown - in other words, paypal will give them a refund if they are not happy and take the money back from you.

I'm not a DVC member but I've been reading a lot of threads lately and have decided that if I ever become a member and end up with extra points, I will use David's Vacation Club Rentals service since they'll find a renter for you and you'll get paid $10 per point. It would be interesting to know if those were all quick rentals or not, since according to the PayPal site, disputes need to be openned within 45 days of making a payment.

the most recent one i've seen was within 30 days - so maybe taking paypal farther out than 45 days is not as risky...

I've used paypal when I've rented points and it's worked out just fine. I also let the renter know there are no refunds once I make the reservations and payment has been made.

He won't do rentals for smaller point amounts that are under 95 points. I wanted to rent 70 points and couldn't use his service. I wound up renting them right here on the DIS! I got $10/pp ..perfect! It gave me $700 spending money for our trip to BLT!!
