that they really made a reservation for you and that all will go right?

Is there a list of "safe" or "UNSAFE" people who rent out points?

There is no list, as such, allowed on the DIS, as it would all be second hand info. More of a he said, she said type of thing.

There is no way to verify the reservation, except that you should receive a written confirmation, including a number, from the DVC owner. All communication with Disney needs to go through the owner. These rental transactions are mostly a matter of trust. Find someone with whom you are comfortable. If something doesn't "feel right" do not continue.

Again, Disney will not intervene on behalf of either party.

Renting isn't for everyone. If you wish a fully no-risk reservation, you may book on cash through Disney. If you are comfortable with the risk factor, renting from a DVC Member can save you money.

There have only been a couple of instances of fraud with rental transaction through the DIS, but that doesn't mean that your individual transaction won't be one of that extremely small minority.

As said above, renting is not for everyone.

Be sure and read the [thread=1669863]Considering Renting from a DVC Member?[/thread] thread.

The DVC owner will receive a confirmation letter from Disney that has the reservation information on it. Then the owner will mail it to you. (At least mine did)

If you read the thread that was suggested it has a lot of of valuable pointers for renting. The chances are great that you are safer renting from someone who is familiar on the DIS and who has rented a number of times before. It does involve a lot of trust, but the rewards are worth it, especially if you want to see if DVC is for you.

Whats that websites name thats a company you can rent from? David something. I was thinking about using them when we get to go back, whenever. I do know it is a little bit more exspensive, but I was looking at the numbers and if I was going this, which I am not:headache: I could get a studio at the AKL for like around 100 bucks a night during the week.:woohoo: during the lowest season.
Thats great. It might make someone who has never rented DVC points feel maybe a little safer the first time they do it.

Thanks for the replies.

It seems like a great deal if you trust the owner.

I am an owner, but don't have points to rent -- don't even have points to use because I used them all :sad2: Hopefully all will go well with the points I am planning to rent for our unexpected trip!

Since you seem to travel to WDW several times a year, do you have an Annual Pass? There are often pretty good room only discounts (up to 40%) with your AP. We sometimes stay a day or two at POP with the AP discounts, as we usually drive to WDW, and sometimes arrive a day early if we leave early to allow for weather or traffic delays.
