Keep in mind, you'll read lots of factors about "breaking even" on your original investment. The number always used for comparison sake is the highest rack rate, and generally, it's not too tough to find discounts at Disney. There are codes and AP rates, and seaonal specials. Another big way to save without buying DVC is to rent points from a member. By renting points at a DVC resort you can literally pay half of the rack rate and never have to put in the orignal investment, or pay one penny in dues. We actually sold our DVC membership because we moved to Orlando and no longer use it, but if we ever do begin to vacation regularly at Disney again, we'd rent points from another member. For whatever reason, the members are reluctant to raise the price per point that they charge when renting points. END QUOTE

Obviously everyone that rents from DVC members know that they are getting a great deal - why continue this?!?

My point exactly....this whole 10 per point thing is mad

non dvc owners who have been renting points at current prices, read these threads and e-mail each other saying they hope dvc owners continue to rent at 1995 prices.

can you blame them?

DVC has gone up 70% from 1995 (that is a guess btw), and we have NOT raised prices.

Has a landlord who bought a house for 100k in 1995, that is now worth 170k kept his rental price the same?

hey I tried to move the price up to $11 and the lady ignored me - despite the fact that I told her there were very few villa left in her time period.

I think someone else rented it to her for $10 a point or less.

when members are under cutting other members - then the budget board will be right....

they can definitely find a bargin here.

the other sites don't undercut their members.

baby steps........

6mths ago you would have asked 10 and been undercut by a selling price of 9.

we will get there.

In the mean time ebay is your friend, 17 is the "mkt price" there.

I also suggest offering pts for rent in the 11-7 mth window, and "sell" the feature the pts can be used to book at peak times at in demand resorts.

hang in there, the tide is changing.

We don't plan on renting out our points - but you never know what may happen in the future, and it seems giving a discount of greater than 50% is ridiculous. I'd rather donate them to a charity.

I am an owner, but anticipate needing 400+ extra pts in the summer of 07.

I expect to pay more then 10 dollars per point.

Everyone on here can post their points at 10 dollars all they want to but when it comes to me I'll either be posting them on ebay or adverstise a week at disney world on the local grocery store bulletin.

If the supply does not meet demand, the people wanting points will offer more - if it is truly worth it to them - you'll see more "willing to pay $12" posts (which you see occationally now from the saavy._

...or the uninformed. If a renter is willing to pay $12, I think it's more likely they would turn to one of the established owners that rent points regularly -- one who has a track record, references, a contract, and more favorable terms for payment. Many owners who only occasionally rent their unneeded points want payment in full upon confirmation. Why would a renter be willing to pay the same price to them with an agreement of 100% payment upfront, no references, and no contract, when you can get the same price and often more flexibility in choosing your resort, as well as favorable payment terms, from someone who is much better established? ~Ev

I really think the "dining plan" may help to raise rental prices...a lot of people are really talking that up on the boards.

If owners would "stick to their guns", I think raising the prices could happen.

The sad thing is by the time the rental rate is higher, we'll probably have to rent more points to supplement ours! Nah, add-on anyone?
