Who has done this? I'm seriously thinking about renting points for July 11-16, 2004. I would need 150 pts. to stay in a 1 bdrm villa at the WLV. It would cost me $1900 to reserve with Disney. I'm just REALLY NERVOUS about renting points - sure don't want to get burned and lose money!!!

if you don't stay on Fri/Sat - renting points can be quiet a deal - but Fri and Sat stays.

will say you stayed Sun- Thur (leaving on Fri) - July 14 - 19 - 30 points a night for a 1-bedroom - so 150 points for 5 night stay

but if you add Fri or Sat then it is 60 points more per night - so it gets really expensive.

but yes - read Doc's warning at the top of the DVC rental/trade and then look for a deal - sometimes when the points are about to expiry and for some reason the member can't go - death in the family or something - they can really be a great deal.

if there were problems - believe me there would be a post about them on the rental/trade or more likely on the DVC discussion board and I haven't seem one.

Yes, we are planning on a stay from Sun-Thurs (leaving on Fri) making it 150 points to rent. I know the cost would be $400 more than a regular room at the WL but I would think it would be worth it to have a larger room for 4 of us.

I'll be sure to check out the warnings first before I book.

Thanks for the info!

I've rented points and it worked out great! It really helped our vacation, although I was a little nervous about it. But, planning on renting points again next year as well (Beach Club and Boardwalk).

I've rented points before. The person I rented from had me pay a deposit up front to make the reservation (10%) and then I paid the balance when I received the confirmation of the reservation, which was in my name. I was lucky that he has his own dental practice and considered taking credit cards, although I paid a surcharge to do this, which was because of what the credit card company charges him to transact the purchase.

disneyatl, I have done this and have secured two future rentals from the same person. I think it's great. The question has been posed - has anyone ever gotten burned?" and I don't remember seeing any really bad experiences - only a couple misunderstandings. That being said, if you want to be on the safe side, try to find someone to rent from who either has a long list of references and seems to rent alot ( you can watch the boards) or someone who doesn't live too far from you. My thought process was that if the deal fell apart, I wanted it to be close enough to sue them in small claims if need be.
