I have a split stay in October staying on our DVC points. We are thinking about going a couple days earlier than our reservation. I would need to rent points which I have never done.

We need a 2 BR (2 Studios are not available). I know that SSR is all that is showing available using "CRAP".

Would you take your chances and wait until late in the game until a member is trying to dump points at a discount? Would you solicit points now (this site or broker) for this resort? Would you solicit a reservation now (this site or broker) for another resort? What else am I missing?

What would be your strategy?

Since you know you want to go earlier:
IMHO, book now. You are looking at going during the heaviest booking period for DVC and a lot of rooms are long gone. It is getting hard to book anything between mid-Sept and mid-Jan now.

I would book now. You can see the availability for your dates. Also consider what you would rent your points for if you rented them out. That would be fair price you should consider when renting from another owner.

Cheap points don't equate to villas being available. Check out the 60 day availability list on the member website. You won't see a lot available for more than a few nights.

Plus will you really save that much on a couple days and is it worth possibly not getting.

For October? I would book it yesterday.

Seriously, book it sooner rather than later. I have had good luck finding points on this board. Brokers want to rent a minimum amount of points but with you needing a 2 bedroom for 2 nights that should not be a problem.

Personally I'd get October locked in.

Also as a person who rents my points I'd never dump them cheap. There has never been any need to whenever I offer them they go in hours. I'd say your chances of getting a cheaper deal and availability simultaneously are very limited.

Once it's less than 7 months out, and you can use any home resort, you'll pay a little less. I agree with the others that it's not worth waiting, especially for October. There are times in October that are already 100% booked.

Completely agree with those who say to book now - it's for an October reservation. October is getting to be very popular.

A 2 bedroom in October is 36 points. For each dollar you save on the per point price by waiting, you'd pay $72 less. Ask yourself if that is worth the stress of not getting a reservation at all (certainly very possible for October), having to move each night or staying off site? Wouldn't be to me, but YMMV. Good luck!
