Renting points for cruise

I cannot answer the question of whether you can or not, but I think you would find that it is actually more expensive to rent points from the DVC member than to actually pay for the cruise yourself.

Looking at member pricing for cruises, members don't really get a "discount" on the cruises. The amount of points a cruise costs when converted to $$ is about the same as what they would pay OOP. It's just another outlet for points.

If you were to rent the points (i.e. pay a premium for the points) then you would also be paying a premium for the cruise.

I will admit I only looked at this briefly when I was deciding whether to buy resale, but I'm pretty sure it is the case. (Another thing to note, DVC points bought resale cannot be used for cruises, so you would HAVE to rent from an owner that bought direct.)

Is it possible to rent points from a dvc member for a Disney cruise?
It's possible but more expensive in almost all cases, usually a LOT more, plus you lose protections and option. Not to mention simply making something complicated that should be simple. The ONLY way I'd even think of doing this would be for fairly short notice were the points are limited and cheap OR where one can find cheap reservation points where someone has canceled a cruise or similar option. IMO one should just reserve on cash and keep an eye on prices. I use cruise fish and it's saved me about 40% the cost of the original booking as I've modified along the way when they sent me alerts. Just to break even you'd need to find points to rent at around $6.50 per.
