Anyone ever have difficulty renting points for a hotel room or studio room at Aulani through David's? We've never rented points before, but are planning a Hawaiian cruise followed by a week at Aulani for our honeymoon next year, probably in early October 2016. We likely won't book the cruise until after we secure a reservation at Aulani, but our dates still aren't super flexible.

My second question is, at what point should I engage David's? Do they rent out to people at the 7 month mark or can they do the 11 month mark assuming they have Aulani owner points? Do they have any kind of wait list if I notify them earlier of my intent to book?

Thanks all!

I usually rent thru David's when I want additional reservations and have always had good luck except when trying to get Aulani. I tried at 11 months and he didn't have any points to rent at that time so I decided to just take my chances at 7 months using my own points which worked out well for me this trip. Maybe it was the time of year I wanted in june but he didn't have points even for a hotel room stay

I was able to book a studio through David's for two of the three nights I wanted at about the 5 month mark. I originally planned two days, but considered three...needless to say I went with the original plan.
I don't think the summer is a horrible time to go. I was there for eight days in July, and it was great...but busy. Two adults can easily escape the masses.
I believe David's does allow you to book reservations at the eleven month window.
Good luck.

We've rented out points out to David's for someone who wanted to stay at Aulani and I don't think they had any issues. If they did, we never knew about it...
I would sell/rent points through David's again, it was the easiest and friendliest staff we've encountered...

I was looking to rent points from David's to secure an Aulani stay prior to the 7 month booking window. They were very easy and friendly to deal with, but were unable to secure the booking I needed.

I've got a request in for Aulani right now ... Waiting to hear. Our trip is in Oct 2015, we are 9-1/2 monts out. I just requested 4 days, we'll go to the big island for the other 4 days. Very anxious about it!!!

We're skipping our fall Disneyland trip to take the kids to HI for ohr 10-yr wedding anniversary. Can't even focus on our trip next month to Disneyland ... So excited to try Aulani!

I got it!!! Happy dance!!! I just got my email that I am confirmed for a hotel room, standard view, for the 4 nights in October I need. Awesome!!!

As other posters stated, a rental in the 11 - 7 month window with David's all depends on what he has for owners that come to him with points to rent. However, I don't believe he keeps your "booking fee" if he can't fulfill your request.

David's has now upped the amount he is paying owners for points, at certain resorts, in the 11 - 7 month window to $13.00. Some other brokers are paying $13.25 for these points. Aulani is on the list as a premium resort. I don't know if this has increased his access to points or not. But, if he increased the payment, clearly there is demand.

Your other choice is to find a DVC owner that will diligently work to get your reservation the morning dates for your window opens or is willing to walk a reservation. For that service you will pay a premium too, but it could be worth it. Sometimes owners can be more flexible over a broker.

Good luck with your decision!

I requested a one-bedroom island view for 7 nights from David's for a reservation 9 months in advance. I received an email to advise there weren't any points at the moment, but if anything changed they would let me know.
Two days later i received an email to advise they had availability and the points available for my stay!
Can't wait to try Aulani, it looks amazing!
