Somebody recently asked about renting points at BLT. I have some similar questions about AKL. If we were to purchase here it would be nice to be able to rent points to offset annual dues.

1. Have you found it easy to rent out your points when you've wanted to (either directly or through Davids)? or on the flip side, have you ever been stuck with points that you had hoped to rent out?
2. How many points to folks typically want to rent from you at a time?

It won't be a problem to rent points. The big challenge with AKV is about half your would-be renters will come in looking for Value or Club, which is generally going to be a big no. Those tend to need to be walked, and people want a bargain.

Ah that was me........

Good luck with renting! I have around 200 a year or so.

AKL is prime realty and you will not have any issues with renting points out.
Within a week, was able to rent out points for a 2-bedroom and four studios, all separate reservations. Main commonality was they all wanted Savannah view.
For how many points to get, that's a question of what you would be willing to rent out and what your own travel preferences are, keeping in mind that Savannah view is what would be best to base your points on if you want to make it easier for renting.

Brokers may have a hard time making rentals after all the garbage that has happened with the resorts being closed. They may have renters, but not owners. Too many owners were shafted.

Renting in 2018 or 2019 will be very different from renting in 2020 or 2021.

Yes, I would guess for the next year or so both owners and renters will probably feel nervous about renting through a broker. I'm sad to hear that many owners were shafted. That might not work out well for the brokerage companies in the long run - you can't rent out points you don't have access to.

Thanks for all of your responses, I love AKL but worried the distance from Theme Parks might be a problem.

Honestly, it's not nearly as far from the parks as you'd think! The only one it's really that far from is MK and it's not that different a trade off in travel distance/time, assuming you visit all the parks during a trip, than staying at one of the MK resorts.

Like the prior poster said it's really not that far from Epcot and DHS. And it's really close to Animal Kingdom! No you can't walk to a park but there's only the 2 stops (Jambo and Kidani) so it's expedient.

I think a greater issue brokers may have is all the vouchers they issued. But they may not be able to get the points or desired availability to fulfill them. Kicks the problem down the road for them now but the problem will persist.

I would really caution you against thinking that past history is any indication of what the future will bring to DVC rentals. Covid is changing that market quickly. Disney will be discounting rooms like crazy over the next year+, making it difficult to compete. Now that renters know that rentals are risky, they are going to be looking for a better deal to compensate for risk. And while VAKL is a great resort - it has a lot of rooms - which means when the demand shifts down, it may be difficult to get rid of your supply. I would discourage buying additional points to offset dues - even a year ago you were better doing something else with your money than "investing" in extra DVC points. Instead, look to the rental market as a way to get rid of extra points when you aren't going to use them - but don't buy more to rent out.

I rented points at AKL 2 Bedroom Lockoff for October and I slapped cancel for any reason insurance on it-anyway. I'm staying here with the intent of buying DVC there but I want to experience it first. I'm with Crisi on this one for the short term I think we don't know what to expect but eventually we will have a "normal" and then go from there. Also-I wouldn't buy extra points just to rent out-
