Hi all,

I posted the other day asking for advice on what to do with a stay that we failed to cancel before the penalty period. Several posters suggested trying to rent, and my husband and I feel confident that this is the way to go.

Since we've never rented points, I read the stickies about it. I see it is typical to provide the rentees with a confirmation letter, and at the time it is provided to them, the rest of the payment would be due. Where we are doing this last minute, only about 3.5 weeks out, will there be enough time to get the confirmation letter from DVC? I want to make sure we can provide "proof" to the rentee that the reservation is theirs. That would be something I would demand if we were renting from another member.

Thank you in advance for your help again. I sure wish we would have cancelled when we should have. I have no excuse other than procrastination. Lesson well learned.

You could print the on line page that shows your reservations (blacking out any personal or membership information you do not want to share), or give the copy of your current reservation. While this would not have their name on it, it would have the reservation number and prove that the reservation exists.

You can also print out a confirmation from the Member's website once the reservation has been changed to the renter's name.

For a stay close to arrival (within 30 days) I'd demand payment in full immediately. There was one situation on our Rent/Trade Board a number of years ago where a member kept expecting payment, never cancelled the reservation at all, stopped looking for other renters and never recieved payment even though the reservation was in the name of the potential renter.

FYI. As a renter, you can check the confirmation # given to you at Disney's website located at:

http://mydisneyreservation.com/dvc

to verify the reservation. That was helpful to me as a renter to verify it was correct. Also, the member also did a 3 way call to member's services to add some room requests for me.

I agree about getting payment in full before changing the name less than 30 days out.
