If we are thinking of renting points for our upcoming vacation how do we go about adding the dining plan??? Will I be able to call and do that, or is that something we have to have the member do?

Only the member can do that, and it will have to be paid when it is added, so you would have to work out how to do that with the member. Some members may not want to deal with that added complication, some may have no problem with it. It must be added at least 48 hours before your trip.

We've rented points the past 3 years and each year added the dining plan. You just need to tell the DVC owner that you want plan and which one you want. They can add it at the time of reservation or any time up until 48 hrs before you arrive.

As far as payment, we have always paid for the plan at check in when we arrive. That has been how it was done so it made it easy for everyone. However, I remember reading somewhere that the policy may have changed this year where you need to pay up front for the plan (before arrival) and they charge your card like 48 hrs beforeyou arrive...I'm not sure so if anyone knows, please let me know if it did change.

I rent from friends so if I have to give them my credit card # to charge the dining plan I will be OK with that as they are people I know and tust. I understand not wanting to give your card info to someone you don't know as well. If you do have to pay up front I guess it depends on the DVC member and how aminiable they are to arranging it. Maybe they can give you the address and you can mail a check as payment...not sure how it works.

I wonder if anyone knows if you can add the DP on check in as a last minute decision? Dining plan or not, as long as you have your reservation # you can always book your reservations 180 days out.

I am very curious if someone can shed light on if the payment policy has changed for DVC and if you have to pay up front can you do it by check in the mail which I think would be the easiet arrangement for someone renting points.

Thanks!

I added the dining plan for some people renting my points. They had a Chase Disney Rewards card (actually 2) to use for it. They gave me the numbers, and there was no problem with it. I wouldn't be too comfortable taking a stranger's credit card information (I don't know if Disney would accept that from me, anyway), but I was fine with the Rewards card. In fact, they were able to use some Rewards that would otherwise have expired in December, because they do charge immediately, not 48 hours out.

The 2 cards were not quite enough to cover it, so they sent me the rest by Paypal, and I used my own Rewards card for the balance. The rep had no problem taking the three Rewards cards for payment. You could do the same with Disney gift cards: the person renting can buy a gift card with enough on it to cover the DP, and just give the member the number. But you have to plan ahead a bit with that, because you have to get the gift card at a Disney Store or by mail. You can't use online gift cards -- those are only good at Disney.com.

I'm renting points and was able to get a temporary credit card number from my Fidelity Investments Rewards Visa. I was able to set it up with a limit and an expiration date. I just gave this temporary CC # to the DVC member to add the dining plan for me. You may want to see if your credit card has this feature - I think Fidelity called it "shop safe".

You cannot add the dining plan when you check in. It must be added at least 48 hours ahead of your reservation. And you must pay for it when it is added.

You cannot pay by check in the mail because it has be to added on the phone and paid for at that time.

But you might pay the owner you rent from with a check if they will accept that and then they can pay for the plan with that.

Thanks for the info! The Disney gift card sounds like a good idea...My 7 month out date is this week and we definatley are adding the plan...but I would rather use a gift card then put it on my credit card...and to tell you the truth, I would ratehr give Disney the money later then sooner...why should they have over $1,000 of my money for 7 months - so I guess I will have the plan added at a later date and use a gift card - just hope the Disney store by me has them.....

We're doing DXDP and am I right that the prices are now $78.99 per night for adult and $22.99 for child? And that's everything - no additional taxes right?

Thanks again!

That is a brilliant idea. I'll have to remember that one in the future. :)
