Question for my amazing fellow DVC members. I have never rented out points. I just purchased a resale contract which has banked points that I can't use. They don't expire until April. I would like to rent out those points but am debating on renting them out myself or using a broker. There are only 30 banked points (VGF) but would be willing to rent out the banked, current and borrow points as I won't be using that contract for a couple of years.

Thanks all!

I would use a broker, I wouldn't want to be bothered handling the logistics. With VGF, you shouldn't have a problem if you rent them before 7 months, you even get a premium amount with David's.

Will any of the brokers do so for only 30 points? I would agree with using a broker if one can for a one time small amount but I don't think they will do this small of a volume. One may need to rent part of the non restricted points either using a broker of if done privately.

Thank you for your reply Dean. I understand the point issue, which is why I stated that I would be willing to rent out the three years worth of points. My question was regarding using a broker vs. renting privately. I guess it would have been easier to Just ask about opinions on renting out points without including my personal situation. :)

I'd just rent them out privately rather than using up the future points. Even if one uses these and a few from those not yet banked (or borrows a few) still better than using the entire future amount. Once you get such a volume you reduce the benefit financially of using a broker for a high demand option.

Renting privately is pretty easy using these rental boards on disboards, especially renting small amounts and GF points.

I had some extra points to rent and I actually reached out to friends and family first, and I easily rented out all of my points and to people I know. Just a thought.

Another option, as DisneyfromDeland said, is to try to rent them locally. In fact, rather than renting for cash, try bartering a room reservation for services, if you have a good rapport with your service providers, just ask the provider...like for lawn care, dental work, and so forth. Many individuals like that will barter with their customers.

Renting just 30 VGF banked points is not likely to be easy. You cannot transfer banked points so you would have to make the reservation in another's name and 30 points won't get you more than one night in a VGF studio and you will end up with points left over. At other resorts, it can be one or two nights and possibly three at OKV, AKV value, or BCV standard except that the chances of getting those during lower point times is fast diminishing since we are now 7 months out from mid-Feb when point costs go to magic season. My sense is that if you really want to rent without waiting a long time to find a buyer or ending up with points left over, your better course is to go through a broker and be willing to use more points than the 30.

I have rented out points several times with David's DVC Rentals, and couldn't be happier with the situation, especially now that I can make reservations online. I am not sure about the threshold, but couldn't hurt to ask!
