I know that renting out points is highly debated here, and I am not looking to start a debate either for or against the practice. I am wanting to know from those that do rent out points if you have ever had points available that you were unable to rent? Are most of you successful in renting whatever amount of points you have chosen to rent?

Again, not looking for a debate here, only for answers from those that have rented out points before.

I rented out 458 points this past year to pay for my Disney Cruise. Had no trouble renting them out. Demend exceeds the supply.

Good luck.

I also have rented several hundred points to pay for our cruise in 2004. I have had no trouble finding great people to rent my points. They have been, without exception, pleasant, prompt, and reliable. I've actually only posted my points on the rent/trade board once or twice. I've been successful at rentiing most of my points by pm'ing people who post looking for points.

My experience was the same as the previous two posters. I have found it to be easy to find renters. So far so good... Demand definitely exceeds supply IMHO...

Last month, we decided to rent out about 600 points to pay for our upcoming Fiji trip. We really had no problems. I asked $10 per point, and was able to get it. A few people tried to haggle, but demand DOES exceed supply, so I just said no.

The only problem was that most people wanted reservations in the 50-to-75 point range. It takes an awful lot of transactions at that rate to use up 600 points. I would have probably had around 10 reservations to keep track of. So I updated my posting to $9 per point for rentals of more than 200 points. Almost immediately someone asked to rent 310 points and I was done.

I think there's no danger of getting stuck. And it's really a win-win type deal. The renters were thrilled, and so were we.

We rented about one half of our points this year for the first time. Our first post yielded no offers and I was a bit upset that maybe HH was not as desirable as WDW. However I posted again a few weeks later and received so many replies I had to turn people away. All in all it was a good experience. Email me if you have any questions (although I'm no expert) komocozo2000@yahoo.com. Kathy O.

Hi,

Just wanted to say that I am going to rent from Kathy O. I think its great & you shouldn't have any problems.

We rented out points for the first time this year. We decided to stay at the Swan(location and price) instead of our usual OKW(members since 1994). We had no problems, payment was quick and renter was content. Had 3 interested parties and went with the first to confirm their interest. Very easy.

I don't expect to rent much but it was a positive experience.

Piece of cake. I've only had to advertise points on this board once, never rented on Ebay. All the other times I've rented to extended family, friends and neighbors. For us, renting of points has been one of the best surprises about the DVC. When we first purchased we thought that we'd always want to stay in a one bedroom unit. We found quickly that about one 6 or 7 day visit a year in a studio more than meets our needs. We have also learned that we enjoy WDW far more when crowds are very low, which is when points stretch the furthest. As a consequence we ended up having more than half of our points unused each year. We started renting a few years ago and it's been great.

Thanks for the replies guys. Not thinking about getting into "the business of renting points" but considering renting out some for one time and was wondering just how easy it is or if it would be something I would worry over. Sounds like it would not be a difficult thing to deal with. Any words of wisdom on how you went about the process would be appreciated if you care to share, like things to avoid, etc.

Make sure you respond to everyone. The first person that replied wanted me to transfer him 12 points. At first, I didn't even bother to respond and then figured why not. Before it was done, this man had rented 308 points. That's alot more than 12.

We are considering renting out points in 2005 to pay for our Yellowstone trip. My biggest fear when renting is that they would trash to room and I would be responsible.

Here's the question:
Has anyone ever rented and put in the stipulation that you want only DVC members or that you will transfer points only?

Thanks
Judy

Just wanted to throw in a different opinion about renting. I am doing it for the first time right now to pay for a trip to Lake Tahoe and Yosemite next year instead of going to WDW.

I have had several buyers but have only been able to secure a single reservation. I have had requests for the first week of Dec., last week of Jan. and early Feb. all for studios for 3 different people and no studios have been available. I have already spent a lot of time on the phone with MS and have only rented/traded a total of 19 points to two buyers so my experience has been there are a lot of renters, but securing what they actually request is another thing. It's been time consuming for me. Don't think I'll be doing it again.

Hey there Marley, I notice we are literally neighbors. I live in Raleigh and work in Cary.

Hope your experience with renting points improves. Wonder if the timeframe and location of accommodations had anything to do with not being successful. Usually studios at OKW are available a few months out. Good luck with your transactions.
