I have points that I probably won't be able to use this year.
Can someone point me to a thread here that would explain how one would rents out points to others, and tips on how to do this? Is it a pain to do, or should I just use a 3rd party like David's? thanks!

Using a service like David's is an easy hassle free way to go about renting. Trying to rent out points yourself requires a lot more effort.... We used David's and are very happy.

I've been following on the rent/trade boards for a few months. It's still not clear to me why some rent out quickly and others sit for a while. Yes, price has to do with it, but someone listing at $10 per point doesn't necessarily beat out someone asking $12. While resorts matter somewhat, there's still a significant portion of people looking to rent within 5 months.

If you have time (and points don't expire soon), I'd try renting on the boards. There's a sticky at the top to help you. Then if you don't have luck, go to David's.

I would also suggest going to some service unless you really want to do the research on how to make a successful rental such as creating a contract.

Also, to rent out directly on this board, you need to have enough posts across the last 6 months. I do not think you have enough history at this time.

Thanks for all the replies.
I may check out David's as It looks like several people have used their services and had good experiences. How much more would I be getting if I rented on my own?
You are correct that although I've been on the boards for many years I don't have enough posting power since I don't post much.

David's pays you $11. Renting out on your own, you could charge up to $14. I highly recommend David's though! We used them to rent out some points last year and it was so easy!

Great thanks.
I took a look at David's site instructions and it looks pretty easy. My wife is worried that they will have access to our dvc member number.
I have only seen people saying good things about their service....has anyone had a bad experience?

If you rent your points, do you have to claim the money on your taxes as income?
Will not be able to do Disney World this year but wondering if it would be better to try an RCI spot closer to home or if it would make more sense to go ahead and rent our points.

i'm sure some break the law, but that is what is legally required, yes. (you can deduct some expenses like dues paid on the rented pts, but you should check with a tax expert for your personal situation.)

They will have your member number, but no access at all to your account.
