Renting out DVC points

Ah, I hadn't even considered that. Maybe BLT is my best bet then for excess points
Even BLT requires a minimum of 13 points for a standard studio at the lowest point time of the year, the first three weeks of September. And that doesn't include weekends. So your 50 left over points would get you three nights in September to rent. Now during that same time, OKW only needs nine points a night, or five nights using the same 50 points. GFV requires 16 points per night at that time.

On this topic, just saw a contract that's the right number of points, but not the right use year for us - I was looking for October since we book both December and October trips, but this is a December UY contract. The one benefit potentially is that since it has 2020 points, we could use this contract to book an October 2021 trip with the Dec 2020 points, correct? Yes I understand it's risky since we can't cancel and bank in the last few months of a UY, but there just don't seem to be that many October contracts at the home resort I want. I was thinking if we end up not booking the October 2021 trip, we could just rent the points, but is it reasonable to assume we might not be able to rent them out?

If you can't go in October, you would need to find someone to rent your October reservation because you are not going to book a different reservation that late in the year. Just won't happen. A Dec UY doesn't go very well with a plan for frequent October trips.

I know. I just haven't seen any October AKV contracts for the precise number of points I want, seems like the original pool had mostly Dec UY. To get October, I feel like I would have to go up to 150 points which is more than I want to spend both upfront and in annual dues. We would have a harder time spending that many points too with our trip frequency and average length of stay, and I don't want to deal with renting out points every year because we bought too many. Same reason I'm not a TA, if I'm dealing with the hassle of booking a WDW vacation, it better be mine, LOL.

We also held out for an Oct UY AKV and purchased 160 points in February at $102. At the time there were numerous 160 point Oct UY contracts, but smaller ones were few and far between. I remember seeing 100 and 120 and they went fast. But we love AKV and Oct is the right UY for us. The nice thing about AKV is there are a lot of room types, so it's easy to "upgrade" to use extra points (stay in savanna instead of standard, or a 1-br instead of studio).

You could go with a use year in August or September, even July and be fine. (some use year months don't exist, and I don't know which). Much better than December.

Can you elaborate on what happened with David’s?

There is a thread in the DVC mousellaneous section that is 146 pages long with nearly 3000 posts which covers David's challenges and bungling related to handling the present covid19 crisis. Happy reading!
